Is deathcore even still a thing anymore? I mean, it's been years now, so shouldn't the whole thing have died down by now and gone onto the next thing? Honestly, I haven't been paying the slightest attention to what's "big" in metal these days, so I have no clue what the current trend is in mainstream/underground metal. Did I say "thing" enough times do you think?

Yeah it's still pretty big with the group that liked it previously. I like very little deathcore but there are a few enjoyable acts out there. I actually just got to see Whitechapel live and they were great. The vocalist had more endurance than anyone I've ever seen. At one point he held out a growl for a solid 15 seconds directly after a full verse. Lots of energy in that show from all members.

The current trend now in "metal" is post-hardcore bull****. Not the good post-hardcore stuff like Touche Amore (they are like Isis is to metal) but rather the ****ty emo crabcore groups.
Attack Attack, I See Stars, Abandon All Ships...the kind of bands that make all the girls wet at Warped Tour (and some of the weaker boys)

Wait those are popular? I thought they were an even bigger joke than the deathcore bands.

Nope those are popular now. A stroll through Hot Topic would tell you that

Look, I know there's a lot of **** in deathcore and recently it's been especially bad, with scene band after scene band just copying eachother to the point where basically every song is just the same open note palm muted breakdown for five minutes with the occasional fast riff bit. But there are actually some deathcore bands I dig that I feel like, while similar to these later bands in some respects, are pretty distinguishable from eachother and are pretty heavy. Perhaps it is because most of these bands are from the subgenre's early days. Whatever reason I like them, here's my list:

The Red Chord
Elysia
Despised Icon
War From a Harlot's Mouth
We are the End
The Black Dahlia Murder (though they often lean closer to straight death metal)
Suffokate

I'd also include Dying Fetus, Suffocation and Skinless but it's a bit debatable as to whether they're really deathcore or more of precursors to the sound.

Does anyone else here dig deathcore? If so what are some of YOUR favorite bands or bands I think I should get into?

I also like the Red Chord and The Black Dahlia Murder (although TBDM is melodic death metal). I couldn't really give any recommendations because I don't listen to the genre that often. Whitechapel and Upon A Burning Body are great bands to go see live, but I don't know about recreational listening. After the Burial have a few good songs I guess.

Edit: forgot to mention the Contortionist. They are a good deathcore band

Deathcore, Metalcore and all these different genres are what my life is about. I've been really tempted to go on the Mayhem Cruise in December, 2 of my favourite bands are playing there; Suicide Silence and Born Of Osiris. That cruise is going to go off unlike anything I can imagine.

Other bands that I really enjoy getting a slam on too are: Emmure, :( Despised Icon (R.I.P), The Plot In You, Parkway Drive, Chelsea Grin and loads more..
:)

I've been really into tech/prog metal recently. CiLiCe is absolutely phenomenal (at least I think so)!
