Old Bands

Which would you prefer, being on the breaking point of a new band emerging or discovering an old artist you love?

I for one choose old bands because im beyond imaptient and would like the option to buy old CD's when I want. New bands are great, but I always play the CD till I hate them.

MORESOAD4ME 05-06-2005 07:23 PM

id have to say old artists.... the older the better!!!!

riseagainstrocks 05-06-2005 07:30 PM

I like discovering older artist but not too old. anything in the last 10 years is cool. the only thing i don't like is bands tend to play their newer songs live so you might not hear your favorite old song...

MORESOAD4ME 05-06-2005 07:34 PM

ya that sux wen u never get to hear ur favorite songs cuz of the newer ones

stonedpath 05-06-2005 08:57 PM

new bands are exciting..new bands are dead

i loooove discovering new music, but i too tend to over play it, then it starts to sicken me...but , i let it rest for about 2 3 months and then i listen to it again and it's good again...if something is fantastic after a while it turns into a classic so you can listen to it anytime, be it old or new..

pastor of muppets 05-07-2005 04:33 AM

i likez old music mostly i spose but finding a new artist can be cool too.....

Are you serious? How do you think the new bands exist, if they were not listening the old ones? If you want to understand future, you must understand past. All in all, you can't say that they are dead!
:band:

stonedpath 05-15-2005 02:18 PM

^yeah Im serious bitch all the people in those bands are dead. NO one gives a F8ck about them anymore.

Trauma 05-15-2005 03:31 PM

It depends, I mean I like The Strokes as an example of a new band, but I also LOVE The Sex Pistols as an example of an old band because I can't believe people lived that **** and I missed it all.
I'd say old bands because I like to think how the bands are all broken up and most of the old old ones the members are dying or dead already.

ArtistInTheAmbulance 05-15-2005 03:37 PM

Youre right stonedpath, clearly no one gives a f*ck about Nirvana, the Beatles, Led Zep or anything like that... In fact, I havent heard anything about them in years...

AITA, youre turning as sarcastic as urban... cooool....

High King Tigernmas 05-16-2005 06:59 AM

Old bands and new bands both have an important role, but if I had to chose, it would be new, as I wouldn't want to grow stale listening to a band thats broken up...

If I follow you correctly, you're saying that you'd want new stuff from old abnds and wouldn't be able t get it? I hear ya, but all bands are destined to stop recording, and bands that go too long inevitably get strung up by their once rabid fans. I don't know that you won't go stale listening to the new.

Whatever, thing is, we have both, so don't worry...

daria 05-16-2005 11:07 AM

People, you are fallacious! Format C: /U /S /Q !!!!!!!

Soundgardener 05-17-2005 04:57 PM

I really like it when a talented musician from a modern rock band recommends some of the stuff that influenced them growing up. Then you can go and check it out... But overall I like discovering new and old bands equally.

There's nothing like discovering a new band when they're ripe with passion, especially an unsigned band. I love being immersed in the excitement of watching a band grow into themselves. Conversely, its always nice to discover an old band with a hefty discography and history to get into. Especially bands with multiple eras of sound and style.

Starsha420 05-19-2005 05:28 AM

Both. Old bands are where are the new bands get their influnce. New bands are fresh, (usuallly, not boy bands though) and are the future of music. What I like is when an old band member colloborates with a new band. Even if it's only like one song. Robert Smith playing with Blink-182 is a good example. The first time I heard that song, I thought it was the Cure.

Amir 05-26-2005 08:35 PM

Alright

New bands may be fresh but they suck dik. Their nothin like the bands from the 60's,70's, and 80's. There is no future music, all music now sucks ****. And don't even talk about Smith working with *** 182

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-26-2005 09:01 PM

Depends which old bands your talking about.

Everybody knows about the Zeppelin`s , the Sabbath`s , the Hendrix`s etc etc.

But how many of you have got albums by the likes of Can , The 13th Floor Elevators , Big Star , The Sonics , Neu or The Deviants.

All of those bands were an influence on what came later yet none of them have had anything like any mainstream success.

Think you can only hear fresh music by listening to a new band?

WRONG

Josephine 05-27-2005 07:35 AM

Idols

Isn't it a bit devaluating to call this thread "Old Bands"? "Back To The Roots" would have been better indeed... I mean we're talking bout Idols for whole generations! Bob Dylan, Jimi, The Beatles, Stones, Doors... I love their music still and I always will!!!
