Trans-Siberian Orchestra//Savatage

Any fans of TSO here? I have their albums, their DVD and several t-shirts.. ;)

Such a flawless live performance, incredible production, sound and lights, whoever thought that rock music would have so much in common with classical music? TSO is always taking that neo-classical metal sound to the next level.. I see them every year and really it has become a holiday thing.. I had hope they would stick to the holiday stuff, as it is what got them famous, however, I can see why they would want to move on from it as well..

I was a big fan of Savatage and to be honest, I had no idea who TSO was when I was listening to Savatage, I had heard their songs on the radio, but it never crossed my mind that they consisted of the same producers and musicians of Savatage, I did not start listening to them till around 04-05ish, I just saw their cd "A Handful of Rain" in a local music store one day, thought the CD look interesting and bought it, been a big fan since, they truly are the greatest masterminds of rock music, Criss will forever be one of the favorite guitarists in history (R.I.P), Jon Oliva and Paul O'Neil are absolute brilliant. I look forward to TSO's next album and I hope one day for a reunion of Savatage.. My first TSO concert was in 2010 and I saw them again in 2011, gonna go yet again in 2012..

And Savatage is not a band I mention often, yet I simply cannot ignore them, they never went mainstream, they existed at a time when different genres were battling it out, they weren't too heavy or extreme, were not soft either, they had a perfect mix of symphonic, progressive rock and heavy metal, musically speaking, they are probably the Mozarts of metal and rock music, their music is full of emotion, yet not emo, it's uplifting, motivating and inspiring..

Let's put it this way.. If you threw two albums in my face along with a gun and forced me to listen to pick one of the album, let's say one of those happened to be Savatage, they would be my choice..

Hoekstra is a friend of a friend. I was excited to hear about him getting the gig. Incredible idea for what they are.

TSO are a great band. Excellent idea, combining classical and metal together, and it really works well. I reviewed "Night castle" in my journal (you can read the review here http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ml#post1104468

Personally though, if I had to choose one Savatage album that links them and TSO it would be "The wake of Magellan", on which I think they began to move away from the overt rock and metal and more towards a progressive style that would eventually result in the formation of TSO.
