Well, to tell you the truth, I really don't know. Rock/Metal is just such an amazing music genre. It's actually kind of hard for me to connect to any other genre after being around Rock for so long. There are some Country and rap songs that I find pretty good, but I just don't really get hooked to either of those genres.

Kiss. They blew up ****, spat blood, breathed fire, made guitars smoke. And then there were the tunes. It was the perfect package for me. Until 1980 anyway.

Megadeth - Symphony for Destruction.

I liked Metallica, but I had only really heard Enter Sandman and One. A friend came over with the entire Symphony for Destruction CD and that was it. Then it was Metallica, Guns n Roses, Iron Maiden and Anthrax, pretty much in that order, plus the alt-rock / alt-metal that was going on at the time - Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More, Living Colour...

Metallica all the way. Master of Puppets.

I believe I discovered metal when I was about 9 or 10 when I went to my friend's house and to her brother's room. He showed me some CDs and I listened and thought it was the most amazing thing I'd ever heard. I didn't even realize it until years later that my happy 9 year old butt was exposed to Mayhem. It was the atmosphere that really stuck with me and I couldn't find anything similar to it until I was around 13-14 (remember Napster? Shh.)

Ever since then, I was a metalhead by day, and a rivethead by night, yep. :)

I'm still not completely sold on Mayhem, and a nine year old with no metal experience whatsoever got into them? I feel like I should be ashamed.

I was most definitely a "special" child with a propensity to enjoy 'shock value' growing up all over the states. I will admit I found it odd at first until he played several more songs and I was just hooked.

This was clearly pure luck, so do not feel ashamed :nono:

So, do you generally enjoy more "evil" sounding or atmospheric metal bands?

Mayhem are a pretty interesting metal band to start with. Which direction did it lead you in terms of other bands you got into?

Mayhem are ok. Some songs are a hit and miss for me. They have a pretty good drummer though.

Same here. The atmosphere on De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas makes me think of the old black and white Dracula movie. It's sorta creepy, but it's got this B-movie goofiness to it that you can't take entirely seriously. "Freezing Moon" is a pretty amazing song though.
