Filter

I couldn't find a thread for this band, but I apologize if there ever was one and I didn't see it...

Anyways I was listening to some of my cds in the car earlier and came across the Filter album Title of Record, which I probably hadn't listened to for a few years. It was never one of my favorites but I thought a lot of the songs on it were actually better than I remembered. I decided it's a good alternative rock album & was wondering what you all here on MB thought of this band.

Here's one from the album most people might recognize - it's actually really the only pop sounding one on there (aside from 'Miss Blue') and the other ones have more a harder rock sound (if that's what you'd call it).

Anyways the album's a decent listen & I don't hear about this band very much so I thought I'd share it & hear what you guys think!

I liked a couple of their singles but never had much interest in them beyond that. I always thought it was interesting that the singer was the brother of the evil terminator from T2 though.

^ Haha really? Yeah I honestly don't know much about them or if they're still around, and this is their only album I have and have listened to. I've probably heard some of their other singles around the radio but can't name them off the top of my head D: Actually... Hey Man Nice Shot was one of them, I think....

Any of their other albums worth listening to?

Yep. He was also a touring guitarist for Nine Inch Nails before starting Filter.

Yeah, there's "Hey Man Nice Shot" from, I assume, the first album and their cover of "One is the Loneliest Number" from the X-Files movie soundtrack. And then... I don't know, I feel like they had other singles I know aside from "Photograph" but maybe not.

Thats about it honestly that I can recall. They were the low-light of Family Values tour when i saw them. SOAD, PRIMUS, and Method Man/Redman totally blew them away.

Filter! that's a band Ive been trying to remember for the last year or so:confused: Thanks guys!

I could remember when the band came out but I couldn't connect the band to any certain song (title). Let alone remember the name of the band itself. I really liked these guys when they first appeared on the scene. It seemed like they had a great career going for them, but then all of a sudden they just seemed to drop off into obscurity. Oh well.."Filter"!

Surely Filter should be in the Rock/Metal forum?

A completely unoriginal band but I kinda like them. The Amalgamut album is an innocuous throw it on listen whilst cooking on a Sunday afternoon. Never heard any other albums by them but I liked this album enough to buy it on C.D.

I've got the amalgamut and short bus in my collection. I haven't heard from them in a while and still enjoy listening to them every now and then.

Filter was one of those bands where the singles were really the only songs that stood out to me. The first album sounds incredibly whiny to my ears. It also feels kind of flat, everything seems to be produced in the same dry style that gives 'Hey Man Nice Shot' its edge except while it's great for a 4 minute single, it gets old as a 40 minute album.

Funny enough, the song 'Hay Man Nice Short' is available in two versions.

One version is on the Demon Night soundtrack (this is a demo, alone with the Machine Head song on there) and the version on 'Short Bus' is it's fully mixed/recorded version.

Apparently, there is a full version of the first album in full demo format however only been able to get my hands on a copy of the pro-recorded release.
