Paul Gilbert Instrumental Recommendations

I really like Paul Gilbert's playing style and looking for some new, inspiring music.

I tried all sorts of songs from different albums/years/projects (like Mr. Big, solo albums, Racer X) and have to say I don't like the pop/rock style with the vocals...

I tried Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar and REALLY liked it!!!

I checked on google and read that

Get Out of My Yard
Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar
Fuzz Universe

Are his main instrumental albums.

What else would you recommend?? I know some great Racer X stuff too but I want some more modern stuff of his.
Oh and I mean the heavy/cool solo stuff.

Thanks!

Just tune out the vocals. I used to avoid great music with crap vocals, but if you want to hear the cool solos, focus on the instruments.

Those three albums are awesome though.

Yeah, sure I can "filter" the vocals by focusing on the instruments but eventually it gets annoying that you have something buzzing in your ear that just doesn't fit there...

I know what you mean by avoiding great music because of bad vocals... the thing is that for me there are a lot of bands with that problem... I mean sure some things you can get used to but the perfect combination on the first try is always the coolest...

So no other interesting instrumental stuff from Paul?

I'm no expert on his discography, just familiar. If there are more, we'll be pleasantly surprised to run across them. Not sure. Maybe someone else will chime in. What does wikipedia say?

Look into his Racer X stuff.

Also, if you like that style guitar playing, check out Tony McAlpine, David Chastain, Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore, and of course... Buckethead.

I`m very pleased to see Paul Gilbert mentioned here at last; I only have a handful of his tracks, but I like his head-on approach.
Usually I go for instrumentals too, but I make an exception with this song - even though it may not be PG`s greatest guitar workout, the lyrics are really good :-

Pick it up. Plug it in. Play guitar !
