Better put that song on a loop then, lol.

For the decade.

hip hop bunny hop 06-15-2013 05:22 PM

God willing, it won't happen and Spotify won't add any more of their music.

Isbjørn 06-16-2013 12:07 PM

Every day Spotify adds enough tracks to fill a medium-sized record collection (about 10000), as they sign deals with new labels and new deals with old labels. The reason Pink Floyd might be added is that EMI owns their music, and they have already signed a deal with Spotify.

EDIT: The song reached 350K streams yesterday, and the tweet from 14th of July said 100K streams. That's rocket speed, man!

I don't use Spotify to hear music that I should have in my collection TBH. I use Spotify to hear new music and I add my fave albums through local files if I need them to listen to.

I really don't think adding Pink Floyd on Spotify is a big thing. For me the whole purpose of Spotify is to expand my listening pleasure and let me delve even more into what is out there without downloading anything and cluttering up my HD.

Oh and Hip Hop. We get it. U don't like Pink Floyd. That's fine, is it really worth making a post about a band that virtually everyone knows whether they like them or not?

Spotify's most played arrive at me with the most abominable crap imaginable but I don't really care as it is a popular music site and it is no doubt sponsored by many labels now but it still has introduced me to so much new music that it is not worth posting about the music I don't like that it promotes.

Spotify is one of the best things to arrive on the net since YT music vids ten years ago.

That's great! Too bad I can't get into Spotify.

I guess I just can't get into it, when I can use itunes instead.

Thinkofthechildren 06-16-2013 08:38 PM

Using spotify to listen to music is useless unless you pay the 4:99 a month for unlimited listening. I use spotify as a database for my music because I don't want to buy 100% of my music.

Isbjørn 06-17-2013 09:00 AM

I think Spotify is pretty good. I do like buying albums, but Spotify is great for discovering new stuff, and not having to buy all Pink Floyd's albums in order to listen to their music would be great, too. Nor can I afford many albums either, since over half of my money comes from birthdays and christmas.

sidewinder 06-17-2013 12:07 PM

This pleases me. I have all of Pink Floyd's albums at home, but sometimes I want to hear it when I'm out and about or at work, and I don't have any loaded on my MP3 player. That's one thing I use Spotify for, in addition to listening to new discoveries I don't yet have.

Also at work we often make Friday playlists for the whole office to listen to, and we use Spotify so everyone can add to it. The fact that so many classic bands like Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, etc are missing kind of sucks.

THEY ARE ON SPOTIFY!

@pinkfloyd:
"Welcome to the machine..." As promised, after 1 million streams of Wish You Were Here, Pink Floyd's catalogue is now available on @Spotify."

I think it's brilliant. I run an album club with my friends and we use Spotify a lot so to me, this basically means we can now do PF albums in our club. :)

Not to derail this thread, but an album club sounds interesting. How does that work? I'm assuming this is IRL and not online?

It's on facebook actually. Every week, one of us chooses the Album of the Week and then we discuss that album in the FB group. Whose week it is goes according to a regular rotation and we got a google calendar set up that we can keep an eye on. We also have a blog set up but that's really only so that we can look at what albums we've done before. All the discussion etc. takes place on fb.

It's pretty much what I've done here only it's more successful and what's nice about this is I know all the people in the group in RL. That means that every week, I get to know my friends a little better.

When we do meet up in real life, we often chit chat about the albums and there's always the possibility of having a club meeting or party if we want. ;)

NSW 06-19-2013 07:15 AM

Well thats a great idea which I will probably steal from you!

Mojo 06-19-2013 07:45 AM

Like Jackhammer, Floyd being on Spotify isnt going to make all that much difference to me personally. Arent The Beatles on it already? The fact I cant be sure I think shows that for what I personally use it for, its irrelevant to me. However, that being said, it can only be a good thing. For any Spotify user who hasnt heard Floyd, or countless other key bands they may just be too young for, they may as well be on there to be an option.

Plus, for playlists and things I'd rather know they were there than not.

There are still free accounts though, arent they? They may be limited but they still exist. I wouldnt call that useless. Infact I'd call that a use.

Isbjørn 06-19-2013 08:21 AM

Naah, Beatles aren't on Spotify. Some of their very early stuff (pre-Please Please Me) used to be available, but they've removed that, too.

I would love to do this, but have always felt that I was a bit alone when it comes to my music tastes (at least since after college) as far as my circle of friends goes. That's why I spend so much time on music forums such as this. :thumb: There's one friend locally that would probably dig this, but he's a freelance writer and video game addict so I don't know that he'd stick on any kind of schedule. But then that's just one, then who? I suppose I could think of friends from my previous locale also, that I'm still in touch with. But again, I'm really the only person as obsessed with music as I am.

Trollheart 06-19-2013 03:25 PM

Isn't there an album club here? We run a Prog Rock one, which is reasonably successful and regular (five members at the moment), so surely a more generic one could be setup if it doesn't already exist?

Just an idea. You discuss most of your music with the people here anyway. Why not make it official?

Frownland 06-19-2013 08:34 PM

We had one for a while but lack of participation sort of killed it.

Glad to see that Floyd is on Spotify. I listen to my iPhone all day when I'm at work, and I've wanted to listen to Animals countless times only to find that Spotify doesn't have it and I was careless enough to leave it off of my phone memory.

Isbjørn 06-20-2013 12:59 AM

Then someone should start a new one! I think it's a great idea. :)

Mojo 06-20-2013 02:55 AM

http://www.musicbanter.com/general-m...-lost-key.html

Thats the general album club.

Ped was hosting it for a while there. If anyone wants to bump it, ask Ped if she wants to start it up again, or take it over themselves then have a look.

Powerstars 06-20-2013 12:07 PM

We should make a thread and discuss how we can get the General Album Club back up and running, cuz I have some things I want you blokes to hear.

A couple of us generally like to torment the rest of our friends with (to them) strange sounding music :D

Something I like except for discussion and feedback is that I listen to more music these days that I would normally not listen to, which I quite like. That didn't really happen much when I was doing the prog & fusion album club here.

Put it in the thread itself if you want, and if you can drum up enough interest to get it going again, myself or another mod will delete all the posts from it before you do.
