What so wrong with Nu Metal?

I have always seen this kind of disdain towards nu metal, like it was some kind of bastard child. Why is this?

Honestly, I haven't heard much of nu metal, and I'm not really interested. Besides some songs of Korn and Slipknot, I haven't listened much of nu metal. The songs I have heard from them are fine I guess, I like them.

But then again, is so wrong for me to try to judge a whole genre with just a few songs. I would like you guys to give legit reasons why you think nu metal sucks of why is it so hated. I honestly don't mind it and am too lazy to give it a through listen. I'll stick with what I got.

Nope, as I said, I don't care about nu metal. I am just curious. In other thread I have seen that people despise it so much that they didn't consider it a part of metal.

I never say I hate something without a cause, I wanna see your reason.

Nu metal has too much OOO-AH-AH-AH-AH and other nonsense.

The problem with Nu-metal isn't that it's inherently bad, it's that it encompasses too few good ideas to sustain a whole genre for the long term. The first few Korn albums, the first Orgy, Static-x, and Coal Chamber albums and a few others were all pretty decent, but the genre quickly got stale and bloated with dozens of bands releasing essentially the same 4 songs over and over again.

Nu-Metal was part of that bizarre trend on the part of corporate america wherein they specifically targeted "misfits". So, you had television shows filled with bizarre characters who were somehow super-duper awesome but no one around them realized it, and a wide variety of music targeting a particular kind of misfit. This music was supposed to grant super powers or something. So, if you listened to Radiohead, by association you were deep & melancholic, KoRn made you tough and badass, No Doubt made you a tuff grrrrlll... etc.

KoRn & nu-metal in general were just a little too successful. You see, as it turns out, music doesn't magically transmogrify the listener. So, nu-metal quickly became associated with young people dressed very loudly & very poorly, among a host of other negative associations. You can argue whether or it was deserver, but as a musical form that was marketed so much as a lifestyle, it was inevitable.

The only nu metal band I clung to were the Deftones.
