Ha, I remember liking that song when I thought it was the heaviest thing out there. Just seems kind of juvenile now. Kinda hard to make myway theough the album too.

Blue Hawk 02-05-2016 07:30 AM

Ride the Lightning.

Blue Hawk 02-05-2016 07:53 AM

BTW, 1991 album is the last their album worth listening to.

Wpnfire 11-05-2017 12:16 PM

I'm bringing this back. Here's my current ranking for some of their stuff.
  1. ...And Justice For All
This album is my favorite of theirs because of its dark, sterile atmosphere, its intensity, and its complexity. I dig the lack of bass on this album, because it adds to the atmosphere. The only tracks on this album that are not perfect are "One", "To Live Is To Die", and "Frayed Ends of Sanity" Those three songs are overly emotional and ruin the atmosphere of the album.
  2. Master of Puppets
This album is a hair's width less good than the following album. The songwriting on the following album is just way better.
  3. Kill 'Em All
I'm going to sound really pretentious for a moment and say that this album has some filler on it. It doesn't maintain the same intensity over its 50 minute run-time. Pretty much all the songs on this album are too long, with the "The Four Horsemen" and "Seek & Destroy" being the worst offenders--as bad-ass as the main riff to "Seek & Destroy" is. My favorite part of this album are the middle tracks specifically tracks 3-7, with the inimitable "Motorbreath" being the highlight of this album for me.

Frownland 11-05-2017 12:30 PM

Kill Em All is the best Metallica album for when I want raw and in your face thrash. Ride the Lightning is the best Metallica album for when I want thrash with progressive song structure.

Texas Boy 11-05-2017 03:35 PM

Ride the Lightning easily for me.

BloodFoxTK 11-10-2017 12:27 PM

if i really had to pick, then it'd have to be Ride the Lightning, followed by ...And Justice for All.

as much as i appreciate Master of Puppets being the favorite of most people i know, i don't think it's anywhere near their best.

MicShazam 11-11-2017 04:41 AM

I was just listening to Hardwired to Selfdestruct again. It is amazing just how much better than Death Magnetic it is, while still managing to easily be their 2nd worst album overall. Disc 2 is complete crap, save for the final track.

BloodFoxTK 11-12-2017 07:31 PM

uugh! Death Magnetic was absolutely terrible!

i'm still unsure as to what the hell they were thinking when they made that album.

गन्धर्व 11-13-2017 01:54 PM

I love RtL more than any other 'tallica album, personally.

The Batlord 11-14-2017 10:13 AM

Kill 'Em All for all time, but Ride the Lightning is a solid second choice, with ...And Justice for All being highly worthy as well. Master of Puppets is cool too I guess. I hear they have other albums but I could be wrong.

I love how the excited response to the album at the time of its release wasn't because it was actually good, it was because it didn't suck as much as everyone expected it to.

Also it's way better than the Load albums, that's a no brainer. Don't give me that revisionist crap about those albums being acceptable.

I think the revisionist crap is more due to nostalgia from when people were in high school and they liked the singles. Those albums do have some pretty fun pop rock singles, but other than that they're pretty tedious to listen to as a whole. Hardwired to Self-Destruct was basically the first time in forever where Metallica actually managed to kick a notable amount of ass, but I can literally not remember a single thing from it so I'm chalking it up to all style but no substance.

Pretty much. When you go back to your roots without having watered them first, you won't get flowers or some **** that implies that they've lost their ability to make anything meaningful

Let's be honest, they were a good thrash band who peaked when they reached the end of their progressive ability and then coasted on their pop abilities until they ran out of good choruses.

Dude111 11-14-2017 05:05 PM

The first 3 are my favourites :)

SoundboardTerrorSquad 11-14-2017 05:17 PM

Retards are those too stupid to understand that their love for Ke$ha is so vast that they can't even see it.

Blue Hawk 11-15-2017 11:15 AM

I hate eternity.

Sigh. Another tightwad with a sense_of_fun.exe he has to run by Metal Archives before installing on his OS.

Calm down nerd. I'm ****ing with you. But on a side note it looks like this site still listening to the same **** from 2000

This statement puzzles me.

Neurotripsicks 11-15-2017 06:11 PM

What's so puzzling about it? It's not that hard of a concept to grasp. There is no diversity here, it's all Metallica, Slayer and Creed. Well, I guess old habits die hard huh

Who's listening to Creed?

Haha I wouldn't expect someone who listens to simplistic, rudimentary lyrics written from a high school girls diary to have any expectations of the band Tool.

Neurotripsicks 11-15-2017 07:07 PM

Also, you need to switch up the $layer and Ke$ha on your profile, E comes before L. Nice though, nice nice.

Maajo 11-15-2017 07:10 PM

Kill 'Em All is my favorite. It has such great energy to it, but Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets are very close behind and they had certain qualities that "Kill" didn't, they have more layers and I think "Ride" offers the best of both worlds. I can flip flop between those two, but generally I'd say their debut is tops.

Ke$ha? What high school girls' diaries have you been reading? Not the right ones clearly. And **** me if I give a **** about Tool's lyrics or lyrics in general. They're just a boring as **** band in general.

Honestly confused. What do E and L have to do with anything?
