Which is your favorite Blue Öyster Cult song?

Here are my five favorites (in order).

1) Teen Archer (Tyranny and Mutation album)

2) Tattoo Vampire (Agents of Fortune album)

3) Blue Öyster Cult (Imaginos album)

4) Hot Rails to Hell (On Your Feet or On Your Knees album)

5) Dominance and Submission ( ETI Live album)

Shooting Shark is good but not great, IMO. I feel that You´re Not the One (I was looking for) does not stand out.

Actually, I do not really care for any of the songs on the Mirrors album.

I would say that they were awesome during their "black and white" period. They stuck to hard rock/heavy metal during that period (roughly 1971-1975).

But when they made their Agents of Fortune album in 1976 they decided to become a pop band. Unfortunately it turned out that they were not nearly as talented when it came to making pop music as they had been when they made heavy music.

IMO it was a major waste of talent when the five guys in BÖC decided to "go pop".

Is it too cliché to say my favorite is Don't Fear The Reaper?

Nah, it's not cliché. It's éhcilc. But most definitely not cliché. It would only be cliché if you meant it.

I'm Burnin' For You, although a cliche, is still one of my favorite songs, period. Not just by BOC. so, that one.

It is a timeless classic, a fun song to cover on bass and guitar I might add as well.

If you're actually able to do that, I'm mentally ****ing bowing to you because I know if you do, you know how to do it right. A lot of covers half-ass it.

Well that's really nice of you sweetheart but I'm nowhere that good of a guitarist. I'm actually a bass player, but I do play electric & acoustic rhythm guitar and a little drums, but nowhere as good as some of my predecessors. You're right about a lot of cover bands not performing the songs correctly. I think it has more to do with how good and versatile the lead singer is more so than having outstanding musicians. Although I'm sure both are preferred. Covering the classics from the 60's and on into the the 70s & 80s is always a lot of fun. Maybe I'll get to cover one of my favorite songs by Steely Dan one of these days. :D

Yeah, I think you're right about that too. But honestly, I think you're being modest. I bet you can kill it. Which song is the Steely Dan one? :P

Don't Take Me Alive is one that I would like to do, but I would more than likely prefer someone else play the bass since I would be doing the lead vocal. I honestly don't believe I could handle both of them at the same time. If you listen to the bass lines in that particular song you will understand why.

I definitely see it. How long have you been playing bass?

And you said a lot about lead vocal, what kind of voice do you have or do you maybe have some recordings? Nudge, nudge.

It's encouraging to see that I am not the only BOC fan who is still around - judging by the number of posts in this thread. BOC has not been forgotten at all.

God bless the heavy metal kids from Stony Brook University! On your feet - or else!

Psy-Fi 01-30-2014 07:50 AM

These would probably be my favorites, in chronological order...

The first 3 as "Stalk-Forrest Group", before they were known as Blue Oyster Cult.

Gil Blanco County
Ragamuffin Dumplin
St. Cecila

And the rest from the first 10 Blue Oyster Cult albums.

Then Came The Last Days Of May
She's As Beautiful As A Foot
Cities On Flame With Rock And Roll
The Red & The Black
Hot Rails To Hell
Career Of Evil
Harvester Of Eyes
Astronomy
Buck's Boogie
(Don't Fear) The Reaper
E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)
The Revenge Of Vera Gemini
Godzilla
Golden Age Of Leather
I Love The Night
Burnin' For You

BOC at their most poppy and it sounds like a Squeeze song.
