Both terrible! It's hard to say which one is worse :S

Norg 03-27-2014 12:02 PM

I wonder who the new drummer of SLipknot will be ..???

GiiNG3RASSASSiN 03-27-2014 04:18 PM

Slipknot

By far it has to be Slipknot for me, I don't like how Nickelback sound as its boring in my ears. At least Slipknot have a loud and attractive sound that keeps me pumped up for a while until it stops

I'm surprised you're still alive, after using a cutting tool on your ears.

It'd still be preferable to Nickelback

Necromancer 03-28-2014 03:23 PM

The former drummer Joey Jordison with Slipknot, formed the band Scar The Martyr last year, which is a better band than both Nickelback and Slipknot in my opinion.

Check out the singles Prayer For Prey, Blood Host and White Nights In A Day Room.

S/T?, Anyway Iowa is a good album and The Heretic Anthem owns

Slipknot's self-titled and Iowa were great albums, but after listening to them recently, the lyrics are extremely cringe inducing. Pure teen angst, and nothing more.

However, Vol 3 was the album where they finally improved their songwriting and lyrical skills, so it's my favorite from them. All Hope is Gone is okay, but sounds too much like a Stone Sour album.

Forward To Death 04-03-2014 03:36 PM

I don't see Vol. 3 as a lyrical improvement, even though they cut out the swearing, but it's definitely their most intricate musically. It's a pretty good album.

All Hope Is Gone is god-awful, though.

It's sad that they'll most likely never have a great album again. With Paul and Joey gone from the band, who were also the main contributors to the songwriting, I can't see any new material holding up well.

And that's if they ever get around to releasing another record in the first place. Corey doesn't seem to be too interested in it, which is actually the reason why Joey left and started his own side project. It's sad, because All Hope is Gone was actually a successful metal album, a rarity these days.

Word is their next album is going to be a cross between Iowa and Vol. 3.

AHIG might have been successful, but I wouldn't even call it metal. Most of the stuff played on alternative rock stations sounds like that, and is considered "metal". Either metal isn't all that unpopular, or these bands that are considered metal really aren't metal.

Slipknot for me, I liked "Iowa" and still listen to it on a regular basis. Can't say the same for any Nickelback album

That doesn't sound that bad, to be honest.

After listening to both extensively because of my former house mates. I definitely have to give this to Slipknot. I can at least tolerate them in small doses.

Neither are good, but at least Slipknot can channel some real world teenage angst and aren't snotty rock stars whose lyricism bemoans how **** it is to have all that money. Slipknot are niche for angsty kids; Nickel back are niche for tone deaf people/persons with an IQ of 65-80.

While I don't like them either, I take exception to saying that someone that likes them is stupid. There is at least one member here that likes their music whom I consider a friend (despite liking Nickelback) who is a thoroughly worthwhile human in every way. Musical taste =/= human dignity

Astronomer 04-19-2014 02:09 AM

I picked Slipknot as being less terrible.

Some aspects of Slipknot's music I actually don't mind. I don't mind Corey Taylor, I remember seeing Stone Sour live at a bar as a teenager years ago and met him, he was a really nice guy. He puts on a great performance and I kinda like his rough and raspy vocals. I do prefer though when he sings (as opposed to screaming, Slipknot-esque.)

I also always had a soft spot for Joey Jordison and his double kick style.

Having said all of that though, I'm not going to hail them as a fantastic group of musicians or anything, I just think they're the least terrible of the two

Frownland 04-21-2014 11:04 AM

This thread should be called "how to get MB members to come clean about their love for Slipknot."

The Batlord 04-21-2014 11:10 AM

I used to like "Wait and Bleed" back in the day. There. I said it.

Carpe Mortem 04-21-2014 12:04 PM

I 'liked' Duality for a minute there, but it's mainly because I was trying to bond with an old friend I had completely fell out of touch with and she insisted it was 'our song'.

I realized very quickly that we were two different people.

Plankton 04-21-2014 12:10 PM

You couldn't drag me to a Nickelback concert. I've seen Slipknot a couple times. Not too bad live.

Plus, there's this:

I vote Slipknot. TBH, I don't think they're that bad. I think their music is decent. Nickelback, on the other hand, is absolutely terrible.

Slipknot are fun to listen to when you're on a nostalgia kick. There's no nostalgia with Nickelback for me though.

14232949 04-23-2014 02:21 PM

it's different outlets though, isn't it?

Slipknot appealed at the time to disgruntled young teenagers. They gave off an angst ridden, angry vibe that suckered their fans in, let them feel like they belonged to a bigger movement.
Slipknot fans would all have the hoodies, many had the tattoos, masks, etc. It was alike a cult movement. A less gay Insane Clown Posse.
What was it Slipknot followers called themselves, maggots, right? Either way, they clearly had a passionate fan base.

On the other hand, Nickelback never really had a diehard following, or any following that wasn't comprised of easily offended passive radio listeners.
I can't imagine Nickelback displaying any sort of emotion, and their music could fill a small village fete on a sunday.
They're the time of music that's designed for people who don't like music and have never shown one ounce of artistic integrity.

Nickelback may actually be one of the worst things to happen to contemporary radio. They told other bands it's okay to be mediocre, it's okay to be horseshit because there's enough passive people out there that will buy a compilation of your radio hits.
