what the hell is f*cking Viking metal? the tragic thing is it's probably a huge f*cking scene in Denmark with riots breaking out between Vikingcore and post-noise Viking terrordrone fans.

the subgenre wars is a reason to love the wonderful world of metal as much as hate it really

You gottas love any genre with "core" as its ending...

All I can think of when I think of vikingcore is a bunch of big dudes rowing a viking boat singing a hearty anthem...

I don't deny that elements of European folk culture find their way into modern metal music, but I honestly don't think the Vikings could envisage electric amplification, digital reproduction and the like... I doubt they'd be sitting around thinking, "boy our viking war chants would make fanastic metal songs for kids throughout the ages to savour... as the "core" of their metal... say, lets call this viking - core... we are vikings after all, and this is the core of our music... now row faster!"
