Hellhammer

Hellhammer? They are an original 80's Sweddish Black Metal band. I wish I would have discovered them back in the day. It used to be Slayer would finish a night of playing metal (who could top them?), but now that I have learned of Hellhammer, they hold that honor. Too bad they did not last long as a band. I understand that two members of the band went on to form Celtic Frost.

Satanic Rites always hits the spot when I'm in the mood for some raw and dirty 80's extreme metal. Also, if you close your eyes and forget about all the imagery they could almost pass off a hardcore-punk band.

Celtic Frost went on to make better albums but the raw, primitive sound of Hellhammer just sounds badass.

From what I have read, Hellhammer made their own 8 track recorder and that is how they got that primitive sound (all, but two of their albums were demo tapes).
