Producers don't hand out one or two million dollars to make a music video these days like they did during the 80s and 90s. MTV and other music channels alike dropped airing music videos during the mid 2000s in favor of reality TV shows.

^ so much this and so much sadness.
The 'M' in Mtv was supposed to stand for Music but now they're just another crappy network playing Reality shows.

Even when I was like, 9 or ten years of age, I had this thought while watching MTV and the grunge bands I was in to, that one day, MTV would become this pathetic excuse, or rather a completely different network than it was in the 90's.

I was pretty young, but like many others that thought the same thing I did, I was right about MTV. The M should be replaced with an R, to reference Reality TV Network.

If you don't like the guy's voice, fine. But that dude can f*cking sing!

No I'm just talking in general. It was sort of a rant based on what you said about music videos. I don't like music videos because of how they slightly altered the industry. My views are exactly the same as Urban's on this matter.

I didn't mean to derail this thread.

This thread was derailed pages ago. But that's what is making this thread entertaining!

bump

As far as "The People That We Love" and the rest of Golden State, I don't see the similarities to Nirvana at all. The riffs are totally different from something Cobain make. Cobain's riffs have that edgy, lo-fi, noise-rock-infused, sludgy tone to them. Bush never has that, and they pretty much do the opposite. Furthermore, that song is the only thing from Golden State that is even remotely similar to Nirvana.

I don't understand the comparison between Rossdale and Cobain.

It's funny how people keep saying something like this when I said so many times that I'm not comparing them. I simply asked who people preferred, Cobain or Rossdale, it's mostly everyone else that turned this in to a comparison game lol.

But I knew it'd become that, inevitable.

In my defense, I had forgotten what this thread was about when I made that post.

Actually dude, you were the 1st one to make that comparison in your OP but i imagine you didn't want ppl to focus solely on the match up

You stop that, Francis. You stop calling me out lol.

But, you're right. I wasn't wanting people to focus on just that, but as the thread would read, it clearly played out that way. But it's all good. I like Bush, most of you don't. I'm cool with it.

I can't! it's a sickness and you should respect that..

lol yea that's how this place works, we latch on to wthvr statement we can squeeze some drama out of..
i personally liked the comparison cause you chose Gavin's side.

Im on Kurt's side but like i said, i like both bands.. (Hence why i bumped this thread) ;)

I just feel that Gavin had more to offer as a frontman, vocally, lyrically. But it's just my view on it, I don't detract from Kurt or the talent he has. He wrote some great music...

...I just like Bush a lot more!

Vocally i think they're both on par but Gavin's voice is more emo imo but lyrically i think Kurt was a better writer.

Im not very familiar with Gavin's lyrics but i never heard true pain in his lyrics where as Kurt wrote cryptic lyrics and yelled them out in pain.

And given he lived in some surreal junkie fantasy that adds even a more genuine feel to his self destructive allure.

The worst i heard about Gavin is that he had to sleep for awhile on an ex-gf's couch while hearing her bang her new Bf through the walls. :p:

Ofc that sucks but it's no junkie hell.

Both Cobain and Gavin were good vocalist in the grunge category. But Layne Staley had more heart and soul in his vocals than even Chris Cornell. Eddie Vedder isn't even close. Scott Weiland is a personal favorite, but he doesn't resonate as strong a sound and vibe as Staleys did in my opinion.

Mondo Bungle 12-18-2014 08:53 PM

Chris Cornell is a fantastic rock vocalist though. Soundgarden aren't really even grunge in my opinion. AiC are more metal than grunge, but still can get pretty grungey. If you ask me, they might have been even more important than Nirvana. All these modern rock/polished "grunge" bands sound way more like AiC than Nirvana, and they all use Layne's vocal style too.

The only good thing to come out of Gavin Rossdale is Daisy Lowe and the song Adrenaline from the xXx soundtrack.
