What is Mathcore?

What is mathcore? So many people have come up to me and asked me if I listen to it, and I really don't say anything because I don't know what it is. Is there a difference between grindcore and mathcore? So if any of yall could tell what it is and list some bands that are mathcore, I would greatly appriciate it. Take Care Everybody!

It's like that, but harder - bands like Dillinger Escape Plan and such.

banonbush 03-11-2004 12:35 PM

Mathcore is like grindcore, sort of, but it's less . . . disjointed, if you will. According to Dillinger, it's pretty much just fitting together a bunch of weird rythems, and making them keep together. I don't know, that's what they said.

2tonelol 03-11-2004 06:43 PM

This is another one of those 'another sub catagory' things.

Its a fraction of some other music, same type just the angle is a few degree's wider,it's a slice of a wider pie(chart),it al adds up the same...etc etc etc

marked_as_infernal 03-12-2004 02:34 AM

Ok, if it's got anything do with maths, I'm pretty uninterested lol.....

NecroBurst 07-24-2004 03:38 PM

Mathcore is grincore played in a complex fomula..

riseagainstrocks 07-24-2004 05:46 PM

Other bands that can be put into the genre based on the previous requirments are:

Converge
Between The Buried And Me
Dillinger Escape Plan
sorta Unearth

grindcore and math arent really the same. all mathcore implies is that it is off time and really technical. botch, burnt by the sun, turmoil, the dillinger escape plan, and psyopus are some bands that i would consider mathy. grindcore is kind of a weird genre. there are bands like Daughters and umbrella that are grindcore and then there are bands like pig destroyer and agoraphobic nosebleed that are grindcore. both styles are very different but both very amazing.

i suggest checking out these bands

SikThInDaHead 07-27-2004 02:38 AM

Well...Mathcore....created by Dillinger escape plan....is when bands use Jazz scales and timing.

JoeyJordisonRules 07-27-2004 09:37 AM

Mathcore? That is wierd. But not as wierd as this one genre about penis's. I dunno the name of the genre but it is about phallic objects.

"Calculating Infinity" is their only other album (almost positive)... i recommend it.

they did have an EP with Mike Patton, "Irony is a Dead Scene". i'd say check it out only if you're into Patton.

David Frost 07-29-2004 09:48 PM

the one with patton is not good

and there is also under the running board, and i think one more..

David Frost 07-29-2004 09:52 PM

yeah, its:

miss machine (new one)
panasonic youth (i think this just had one song on it)
irony is a dead scene (with patton)
calculating infinity (great cd)
and under the running board (an amazing release)

They have "Under the Running Board" which is an EP and they also have their self-titled album....i suggest people go out and get them at once, both fan-****ing-tastic.
