King's X is not Prog!
Rather than derail Troll's thread any further.
This is not prog in my book. And it's a quintessential King's X tune. |
Nobody cares.

I wouldn't think "prog" if I heard that somewhere, but then again I also wouldn't think that hearing most neoprog, so my perception of the genre might be somewhat askew.
|
I absolutely would not consider that prog; more like hard rock. I didn't, however, like it at all...

How about this one? |
Kings X are one of the great American bands of their generation and the reason I like them is that they're a melting pot of musical ideas. I find this can be a common trait in a number of mid-western American bands, who seem to pull a myriad of unlikely influences into their core sound. When I think King's X I think Jimi Hendrix Experience pretensions, Beatlesque melodies & middle America rock (Kansas & Styx) influences, all artists I love so yer they're a great band.
Would I expect Trollheart to like them? hell no far to bitty for his tastes :p: |

It's a sin they didn't become huge. One of my fave's. |

I love Kings X. Saw them so many times from the 80's on. Doug's voice, the Beatl-esque harmonies, Ty's insanely great tone. I have a signed, framed poster in my jam room. They really never got the love they deserved. But no, not even kind of prog.
