Is it weird that I've never listened to classic metal?

Here I am, 22 years old and I've never legitimately listened to old school metal like Iron Maiden, Judas priest, Saxon, or what have you.

Most of what I listen to is very recent. Most are 21st century made and almost none of my songs are older than me.

I'm not necessarily uninterested in it, but I never came around to doing so because I find modern metal to be much more appealing and quicker to grab my attention.
Whereas when I come across classic metal I find myself forcing myself to listen because I think "I'll probably like this if I keep going" before it loses my attention and 5 minutes in I run back to my iPod and listen for hours.

Perhaps I shouldn't question my habits and just follow my ears. shrugs*

Never really liked heavy metal/power metal and all that either.

I read the title as "classical metal" and I decided to look on Youtube if that's a thing, then this popped up:

I'm not disappointed.

Its not weird at all. Everyone has different tastes in music.

It's not weird, but remember the bands you listen to now probably grew up listening to the likes of Maiden, Motorhead, Saxon, Angel Witch and so forth, and based at least some of their sound on the bands who had paved the way, so it would be nice to give them a shot. Jansz was like you, then he listened to some NWOBHM (Tyger of Pan-Tang I believe) and seemed to really like it.

Mind you, if it's not for you that's fine, as long as you don't put it down ("Oh I only listen to current metal: old style metal is crap!") --- if it's not your thing that's fine. Nobody's gonna look down on you for not listening to it.

Yes, it's kind of weird.

bingo

i myself am not as into classic metal as other metal. sure i LOVE pantera, some judas priest, etc., but there are definitely a lot of root metal bands i put on my iPod and have to force myself to listen to. (it's funny 'cause pantera started out that way for me, but now i cannot stop listening to it! so maybe you'll like it after awhile.) is it weird i'm kinda 'eh' on metallica?

That's one hell of an album. And I don't even like it as much as Bigger Than The Devil. That's an all timer for me.
