Made Out of Babies

One of the heaviest non-metal bands out there, but it exceeds metal in pure visceral catharsis. Melvins-esque in its sludgy delivery of noise rock and post-hardcore, very meaty. The vocalist, Julie Christmas, is a brilliant musician in all her works including Battle of Mice and a solo career. She can manage to sound like a damaged, frightened little girl to a destructive, wailing monster without missing a beat.

I guess it could be recommended to fans of the Melvins, Karp, Jucifer, Old Man Gloom, and any crushing and filthy noise rock/metal.

I dig what I'm hearing.

JGuy Grungeman 05-06-2016 08:11 PM

I immediately thought of, "the family sword is made of babies."

That's a weird thought. Does it mean something?

The Batlord 05-06-2016 09:25 PM

Something Jesusy I imagine.

Or maybe "the family sword" is a penis?

JGuy Grungeman 05-06-2016 09:40 PM

It's from an Adventure Time episode.

I have no idea what that is.

Adventure Time? You're kidding, right? It's like, one of the most famous cartoons today. It's on season 7. Look it up. It's quite funny.

Mondo Bungle 05-07-2016 12:09 AM

I prefer Regular Show

grindy 05-07-2016 12:24 AM

Adventure Time is absolutely awesome.
Also: AT >>>>> RS

Mondo Bungle 05-07-2016 12:30 AM

It's more relatable

Nope, I'm not kidding. I guess maybe I've seen the name before, but I've never watched it or heard anyone talk about it. Sounds like something that's probably popular with a certain age group but not with people outside of that group.

It's awesome for every age group though.

Anyone who prefers AT is lying to themselves. Although I stopped watching it quite a few years back, I still watch RS quite a bit.

But I really can't mention cartoons without plugging how flawless Rick & Morty is, seriously people.

Regular Show hasn't been good since season 2, what are you going on about? Adventure Time stays fresh and reinvents itself every season, yet RS kees falling back on it's own clichés over and over anf keeps getting duller along the way.

How does it feel to be so wrong?

I just watched an episode because of this conversation. It didn't really do it for me. I assume it's supposed to be funny, right? Like a lot of other Cartoon Network shows, it felt to me like it was playing on tropes and aesthetics of video games and kid's shows that were way after my time and because of that I don't have that gut level reaction to it that someone younger might.

I was initially sceptical as well, since I felt a little too old for it as well.
It is often funny, but also at times pretty dark and philosophical.
The world it builds is amazing.
It takes some getting used to the style, but it's definitely worth it.

JGuy Grungeman 05-07-2016 01:01 PM

It's not really "in your face" comedy, as an old acquaintance put it. The comedy more revolves around the special brand of uniqueness the setting has to offer and the strange personalities of the characters, as well as the great animation.

Guess we gotta move and rename the thread

I like this band though. Much better than the show.
