OK Computer or Moving Pictures?

Which of these acclaimed and respectable albums do you prefer?
What is your taste and preference?
And do you consider both albums masterpieces?

grindy 11-19-2016 07:52 AM

The eternal question: Apples or oranges?

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 11-19-2016 07:55 AM

My favourite is: grindy or Frownland? It's like choosing which leg you would rather amputate.

I consider neither a masterpiece. Both bands have better albums.

What a weird comparison.

I don't like Radiohead and am a Rush nerd so you can guess my answer.

Obviously grindy. We're kinda the same, but I'm older, wiser, richer, more muscular and have more tasteful facial hair.

Frownland 11-19-2016 08:55 AM

Idunno I've been told my beard is pretty delicious.

I guess it depends on what you've eaten.

I can kind of get the comparison. Radiohead fans need to come to Jesus about how prog they are at their core. These two records have similar production and shine. I know a big Radiohead fan who says he doesn't like Pink Floyd. That's like a Slayer fan saying he doesn't like Black Sabbath (or maybe the reverse?). I get you like what you like but at certain point it shows a lack of basic understanding. I'm also voting Moving Pictures. Not because I have anything against Radiohead. In fact, I love them. It's just that Moving Pictures is an incredible masterpiece. Song for song brilliant start to finish. I'm sick of Rush being relegated to a guilty pleasure kind of band. They're awesome. Period.

Predicament or Dilemma?

Choose wisely.

I definitely agree on the similar production and shine bit, they're both incredibly well produced records, even if I think OK Computer is just okay. I just see them as two drastically different albums and haven't heard the comparison before. Maybe it is a lack of understanding from only listening to OK Computer tennish times, can you elaborate on the similarities?

Also your friend probably doesn't like Floyd because he went into it expecting a Yes or Kansas style prog band. While I do love them, I don't really think of them as prog tbh.

Yes or Kansas
I see your point but feel inclined to make mention of how superior Yes is.

Frownland 11-19-2016 02:50 PM

Most definitely.

OK Computer is clearly the better album because it's at least good, but a weird poll.

Neapolitan 11-19-2016 10:29 PM

The answer is hidden in the album titles, OK Computer is just OK, but Moving Picture is very moving, so I voted the latter.

Trollheart 11-29-2016 03:25 PM

Nickelback. :)

Why is this a part of the prompt?

mrsvend3245 03-04-2017 08:49 AM

I'd have to go with OK Computer, mainly due to the fact I'm a millennial.

Chula Vista 03-04-2017 10:41 AM

I've tried at least a half dozen times to "get" all of the hoopla over OK Computer and have failed every time.

Top acclaimed records by great prog bands.

Whelp. Might as well give it another go to see if it's good.

It's better than Moving Pictures I'll tell you that.

Hah. No.

Vocals can be a big dealbreaker and I really don't enjoy Yorke's singing style. Even then it's too poppy. Is Airbag a Muse cover?

Frownland 03-21-2017 09:35 PM

Didn't see that coming.

Gelee is more tolerable. Yorke is literally cringey. I might be biased because of how many ****ty songwriters ripped off Yorke's unintentionally annoying vocals though.

Justthefacts 03-21-2017 11:05 PM

As many as it takes, you'll eventually enjoy it.

Listened to it all last night and I still feel the same way. I think y'all got tricked.

It has motivated me to check out their other albums though.

OccultHawk 03-22-2017 01:59 PM

Kid A is easily the best.

Geddy Lee: "Radiohead are a progressive rock band" - Terrorizer

Quote:

In a recently conducted interview with Terrorizer the 58-year-old Rush frontman commented on the term “progressive rock”:

“For me, you look at a band like Radiohead, who I am always impressed with, I think they’re enormously talented. To me, they’re a progressive rock band. You don’t have to sound a particular way to be a progressive rock band, and that’s my view on it. We are a hard rock band, we are a progressive rock band, but our roots are in hard rock more than they are in ELP or something like that. It’s different strokes for different folks. Radiohead are a kind of progressive alt band I guess, but the key is that they’re trying to bring other things into their music, and that’s what a progressive band does, tries to expand what they are by adding other influences without too much prerequisite.”
