Rush getting drunk.

Hope I haven't already posted this. (having serious memory issues) Over four decades together and they still make each other laugh like kids. Priceless.

OccultHawk 04-21-2017 11:30 PM

It's hard not to feel deep class envy while watching that. I like to imagine rockstars as slimy rich not Monopoly game piece tycoon rich. Interesting but I'm far too cynical to feel anything heartwarming about it.

OccultHawk 04-22-2017 09:09 AM

I love their music

Much like Wolves In Sheepskin or Jesus the Carpenter.

I love Rush but I really really wonder why you think this point would convince anyone of their greatness. It's just trivia.

I assume you're all about Kanye West. How could you not be with that many sales?!!!

If you don't like Rush you're probably putting an ethos before aesthetics. Either that or you have a stunted ability to appreciate music.

Yeah. I respect all the points Chula made about Rush as relevant to their legacy. Frown loves them, too.

Chula Vista 04-22-2017 12:36 PM

Sometimes I think I'm simply too old for this joint.

You're never too old for a joint.

You simply can't be serious.

We are secrets to each other
Each one's life a novel
No one else has read
Even joined in bonds of love
We're linked to one another
By such slender threads

We are planets to each other
Drifting in our orbits
To a brief eclipse
Each of us a world apart
Alone and yet together
Like two passing ships

Just between us
I think it's time for us to recognize
The differences we sometimes fear to show
Just between us
I think it's time for us to realize
The spaces in between
Leave room for you and I to grow

We are strangers to each other
Full of sliding panels
An illusion show
Acting well rehearsed routines
Or playing from the heart?
It's hard for one to know

We are islands to each other
Building hopeful bridges
On a troubled sea
Some are burned or swept away
Some we would not choose
But we're not always free

Frownland 04-22-2017 09:50 PM

I agree that he's overrated as a drummer, despite the fact that I think he's amazing.

OccultHawk 04-22-2017 09:55 PM

I actually think one of the great charms of Rush is that their music and lyrics are thoughtful without being pretentious. I always got the feeling they respect their fans and give them what they want in a thinking AC/DC kind of way. I know that AC/DC has stuck with a certain sound and Rush developed and went through changes but like AC/DC Rush stays in their lane. They stick to what they're good at it. You go to Rush concert; you get a Rush concert.

Is Peart overrated? By some. But they all are excellent technicians and he's a damn good drummer. Certainly the perfect drummer for Rush.

Think it's pretty amazing that when he was at the top of his game he chose to go back to school.

Not a fully committed rush fan, though I like them.

Either way, excellent video, thanks for sharing.

Reading that you don't even need the music to hear every note in your head.

I do see your point with the popularity thing and how it can be trivial or subjective. But at the same time, Rush is not Kanye West or Justin Beiber. I would bet my life savings on this next statement.

RUSH FANS ARE FOR THE MOST PART MORE INTELLIGENT HUMAN BEINGS THAN KANYE WEST OR JUSTIN BEIBER FANS.

It's really about longevity. Kanye and Justin have sold a ton of records.

Kanye has 7 that have gone gold or better. Beiber has 4. All in the past 10-15 years, and all unbelievably hyped by critics and the rest of the 24/7 universal media.

Rush has 25, spanning over 43 years, and all with basically zero critical or media support.

JiggleMonster 04-22-2017 10:48 PM

Another good point. Beiber and Kanye probably wont be talked about in 30 years. Certainly won't still be performing.

JiggleMonster 04-22-2017 10:49 PM

****, 30 years? I'd be surprised if either of them are touring in 10 years.

Chula Vista 04-22-2017 10:53 PM

They're both pretty much already off of the radar.

JiggleMonster 04-22-2017 10:59 PM

honestly don't know if I have ever heard that song in full. A little corny, but I get it.

Rush sure had a lot of music on the radio and MTV in the 80s for a band with no media support.

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill
