It's very thrash, but with a different feel from what Megadeth had done so far, plus the band members were unknown session musicians aside from a briefly returning Chris Poland. There's just something about how the album sounds that I really like. It's hard to put my finger on but it has a certain feel to it.
'Of Mice and Men', 'Scorpion' and 'Tears in a Vial' are some of my favorite Megadeth tracks across their entire discography. I've got some nostalgic feelings for the album too, so that might cloud my judgment a bit. And yeah, 'Die Dead Enough' is pretty damn catchy. Possibly the shortest verse ever too.

I mean, no, but I will say that Scorpion is a great song.

And Batlord is stupid don't bother with Risk.

I feel like it gets its dues more or less. I guess it's not very common to hear it put alongside Rust in Peace or Peace Sells though.

There's so much incredible metal that very few people have heard. It's almost as if recognition is totally irrelevant.

Yes I have and I don't agree!

I've got pretty much all 15 Megadeth albums on CD and I like all of them. Megadeth is basically the only band I listened to as a teenager that I still like a lot, so I'm very familiar with every single album they've ever done.

I even find a lot to like on Thirteen and Super Collider - two unfairly maligned albums.
It's been a while since they've done a truly classic album perhaps. I'd probably put both The System Has Failed and The World Needs a Hero in that category, but they're both over 10 years old by now.

Cryptic Writings is still my favorite album of theirs, followed closely by Countdown to Extinction and So Far So Good So What.

I don't actually know why i haven't gotten bored after 15 albums. As much of a fool as Mustaine is, he's a great songwriter.

Blech. Anything after Risk is dull **** from a tired songwriter who clearly no longer cares. Any of Megadeth's modern "thrash" albums just sounds like chasing Countdown to Extinction.

But **** Chris cause Risk rules.

I don't appreciate it as a thrash, metal or rock record. The lame poppiness probably gets your balls in a vice (in a good way) I'm guessing.

Yeah but seriously Megadeth after Rust in Piece just isn't at all the same. Killing Is My Business and Rust in Piece for ****ing life, bitch.

Frownland 08-13-2017 06:57 PM

I prefer the earlier work but I like up to Countdown.

The Batlord 08-13-2017 07:00 PM

Countdown's fine, but you can live with ignoring it beyond a few songs.

Frownland 08-13-2017 07:11 PM

I could live with ignoring Megadeth's whole discog. Doesn't make it bad.

I mean I could live with ignoring your mom's skid mark panties, but I don't.

That cartoony singing voice when he sort of sings in the voice of another character... It's like saturday morning cartoons + thrash metal. The lyrics can be pretty entertaining too.

I like Risk, but a lot less over the years. I used to place it higher. Now it's bottom third out of all 15 studio albums for sure. Maybe even bottom 1st - which doesn't mean I don't like it somewhat. 'Breadline' is still a great song and so is Ecstasy. 'I'll be There' and 'The Doctor is Calling' are some of the worst Megadeth songs ever.

I like the whole album a lot. I feel like it's probably the Megadeth album that sounds best. It has a really great sort of 'band playing together' vibe and some great production on all fronts. Like with any Megadeth album, the 2004 remasters kind of ruined that.
