Godflesh

I was gonna go to the Godflesh thread to bump and post this new track as I figured in what universe would there not be a Godflesh thread. Retardedly, there wasn't

U.K. industrial metal pioneers GODFLESH will release their new album, "Post Self", on November 17 via Justin K. Broadrick's Avalanche Recordings on CD, digital and LP formats, with a cassette version incoming on Hospital Productions.

Over two years in the making, "Post Self" explores the less "metal" side of GODFLESH, taking in the formative influences and spitting out something more informed by late '70s early '80s post-punk and industrial than it is anything metal-related. Lyrically, the album deals with anxiety and depression, fear, mortality and paternal and maternal relationships.

Great band.

title track is some good ****

Absolutely love GF, the song I heard about a week ago sounded very Streetcleaner-esque. Can't wait for this one to drop, but I'm a little skeptical about the "less metal" side and what exactly that means - I'm hoping that it means more post-metal/ambient elements that Broadrick explored during his solo career, while still maintaining their signature sound.

Mondo Bungle 11-15-2017 06:49 PM

they say it's gonna be less metal then go and drop these metal ass songs

One of the best metal bands period. Excited to see how this album turns out.

OccultHawk 11-16-2017 12:55 PM

The pre-release is very good.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 11-17-2017 12:39 PM

OccultHawk 11-17-2017 01:12 PM

Head of David is like the most forgotten band ever

It was the most uninspired thing I've ever heard in my life.

2 bad albums over a 30 year career is a good ratio though.

Honestly, I tried to give it a chance and finally concluded that their work together is some of the most unlistenable garbage ever recorded. It’s bad. Embarrassingly irredeemably horrible. It’s amazing they never just looked at each other and said this isn’t working out.

It's like someone who didn't know anything about mashups took the dullest cuts from both discographies and just slapped them on top of each other without even listening to it.

I thought J2 was pretty bad, sadly.

Do you think they try to do too much on that record or what’s the problem? Just doesn’t mesh in your opinion? Lazy song structures?

It's been a few years since I've listened to it, but I just remember it being boring. And I kind of think Jarboe's vocals suck on it, which is weird because I usually like her vocals a lot.

OccultHawk 11-17-2017 09:54 PM

I wish she stayed working with the swans.

Raime 04-23-2021 09:36 PM

I've been dickriding Justin Broadrick pretty hard lately, but with such an eclectic career how could I not? The man has been making music since 1985, and 36 years later is still putting out really good stuff without seeming like an out of touch old fart.

Edit: Well, it's a good thing I didn't listen to his collabs with Sun Kil Moon. I like the fact that everything I've listened to so far is pretty gold.

Sounds a bit like Greta Van Fleet tbh
