Hi all, need help identifying a song.

This is one of 'those' requests. I hope some will see it as a challenge, rather than thinking the OP is a muppet (possibly true).
I heard this song at a party a few weeks back and it instantly took me back 20 years to the place and time I heard it last. I don't remember the lyrics, so all we have is 'feel'. Imagine a song that is almost definitely played by musicians from Deep Purple. It is slower and more laid back than their usual stuff.
The singer is a little bit more gruff than any of the singers from Purple. The song almost has a biker bar or a bit of a southern rock feel to it. Having said that it's not ballad-slow. I think the riff was quite similar to 'Burn' or any of the dozen Purple/Rainbow riffs that sound like it, probably about 1/4 or 1/3 slower. Thanks in advance.

Also, I should probably put at least a tentative date on it. Hard to do. I'd place it either in the late 70s or early 90s (no idea why the early 90s, just going on gut instinct).

Free - Bird

Yeah, sure. Freebird is to music what 42 is to life and everything... but.... no.

Gruff vocals? Maybe some Graham:

Thanks, Plankton. Quite a similar tempo, the voice may or may not be a fit. Less distortion on the guitar, as far as I can remember no vocal harmonies and slightly less theatrical feel.I considered Rainbow, but the vibe of the song I remember is more subtle, I think. It may possibly be a side project by someone from Purple?

Its a bit of a shot in the dark with the info given. If you're still sticking with some incarnation of Deep Purple, look into other Rainbow lineups, Black Sabbath's Born again album, or maybe Jon Lord with Pace Ashton & Lord and Whitesnake. Maybe even look into Deep Purple itself, since they've had quite a few lineup changes over the years. Good luck.

Sounds like the direction I was already heading in. I'm wondering if it ends up being on one of the late Purple albums. So much stuff to listen to... And some of it far from great :-)

Thanks again.

Tbh, it's probably just Storm Bringer by Deep Purple.

Plankton 03-07-2018 04:34 PM

Maybe Trashed by Sabbath? *shrug*

Not sure if this is it, but it's great DP tune:
