I feel like this is basically Nevermore for people who don't like Nevermore. Which means it's for me, sincee I think Nevermore is kinda meh.
This just seems more exciting and less overbearingly melodramatic. I also feel like the guitar playing has comparatively more purpose and less widdly-widdly-wee.
Of course I'm being simplistic here, as it doesn't sound that much like Nevermore, but there are a few ways in which I think Psychotic Waltz seems like a similar band.
Cool rhythm section btw. This becomes obvious when listening through the whole thing.
Seems like they probably wont fall in the trap of being too one note. There's several kinds of dynamism to this particular track.
Definitely a band I'd like to hear more of.

Into The Everflow is an amazing and basically perfect album.
Certainly the best prog metal ever which probably isn't that high a mark since the genre mostly sucks balls.
This album had a pretty cool style. It's got those high pitched thrash metal vocals, but also sort of a NWOBHM vibe to go along with the hard edged riffing.
I always like a good clanking, "stringy" bass guitar sound like this. Reminds me of Steve Di Giorgio's playing in Sadus.
If I'm gonna nitpick, I'll say that the songwriting could be a bit better. Seems quite all over the place a lot of the time.

It hit me hard when it was initially released, and for it's time and circumstances it's a really good effort, but after re-listening to it with older ears it does seem just a little cheesy and over-the-toply operatic at points in the album. Still some really fine playing by Kratky.
Glad you enjoyed it somewhat.

From my own country, but I've still barely ever heard their music. I listened to some tracks off the same album that you posted a track from and... well... not really my thing to be honest. Way too much of a hair metal/80's hard rock vibe to it for me to enjoy it. And when the singer does his gruff vocals, he sounds like he should be voicing a character in the Muppet Show.

Ok, so this is better. Feel both quite 80's, while also having a bit of that early 90's grunge vibe. Reminds me somewhat of Savatage. Listening to this and a lot of other things recently, it's dawning on me that I'm generally not that into 80's metal. Now this is a 90's album, but with a heck of a lot of 80's feel to it. Of course there are exceptions, but I'm leaning towards late 90's and newer these days when it comes to metal. A lot of older metal bands feel really cheesy to me now. Take that with a grain of salt since it's a pretty heavy generalization.

Annihilator's got some other great albums, like Alice in Hell and King of the Kill. Nothing's beat the aforementioned Set the World on Fire for me though. I'd love to hear Aaron Randall return as vocalist someday.
Yes, Knight Jumps Queen is great, but my personal favourite is probably Snake in the Grass.

^Sounds Good to Me is a good song too. It could have totally been a radio hit. I put it in a mixed folder of mp3s I made for my mom without telling her that it was made by a metal band :laughing:

^Especially a thrash metal band, usually those kind of ballads are reserved for hair metal bands.
Speaking of hair metal, Ratt's a favorite of mine and a great choice for some melodic metal that still has some bite.

Gotta say I'm not really into hair metal. But the guitar solos are often fun in that style of music, so that's nice.
