Opinions on deep purple and megadeth
 

Hey I'm going to be debating the best deep purple album and the best megadeth album seperatly on a couple of upcoming shows I'm working on for a YouTube channel.

I will be debating someone who is picking "Perfect Strangers" as Deep Purples best album, I think its probably "Machine Head" myself but I get to compare PS to every other DP album to argue my point.
Also I will be debating against someone who is choosing Megadeth "United Abominations" as their best album. For Megadeth I think "Rust in Peace" is the best.

Just wondering what people's thoughts are and which albums you think are Purples and Megadeths best albums. I'd like to get some opinions so I can better prepare my arguments for next week it would be a great help.

What the absolute ****? I guess if you prefer their radio metal sound then UA would work as an understudy to Countdown to Extinction, but still, wtf? I guess the hardest part of debating against them will be listening to United Abominations more to form a more solid opinion on it.

Killing Is My Business is raw as **** and brings the smell of a dicksweat-heavy moshpit. Definite contender for the top Megadeth album.

Peace Sells is a really creative point in thrash and Chris Poland is borderline jazzy on this record. My favourite on most days, though Rust in Peace is a solid choice too.

I really liked United Abominations. The biggest problem I have with it is that flattened-out Andy Sneap production job and how the new version of A Tout Le Monde doesn't fit so well in with the rest. I don't actually mind the remake, but it's just way more pop-rock on a mostly pretty thrash metal album.

Back when I originally bought the album, I remember taking a long time to really appreciate it. I think the sound of the album really kept me at arms length. I did come around eventually and I do think there's a lot of good songs on the album. The opening 5 tracks or so are very entertaining. I especdially love Sleepwalker.

Even Endgame, which they did at the end of the same decade, still produced by Andy Sneap, is a much better album to my ears. It just feels more raw and energetic.

However, I pretty much like all Megadeth albums, so it has to be said that I still consider UA the weakest album they did that whole decade. I do like Rust in Piece more overall, but my personal favorite Megadeth albums are So Far So Good So What, Countdown to Extinction and Cryptic Writings.

The only song on United Abominations worth comparing to past work is the title track and that's not even top shelf. Your friend or whatever shouldn't be allowed out of the house without a helmet.

Never Walk Alone... A Call to Arms is my favorite on the album, probably.

Ya to be honest I haven't really listened to UA other than the first track Sleepwalker, which now I need to familiarize myself to i in only a couple of weeks so I don't have too much time to let it grow on me especially if it takes a while to appreciate, but I'm arguing against it anyway so maybe that works in my favour.
I definitely dig the early Megadeth albums, Rust in Peace was my first Megadeth album album and I still go back to that one so maybe it's slight nostalgia but I think the entire album is very strong. I might have to steal some your points, like US is good for a poppy megadeth album if you can't find your copy of countdown, and that my friend shouldn't be let out of the house lol.

I've always thought House of the Blue Light was a fantastic follow up to PS for the Purp boys, mostly for Spanish Archer though, but there's some great hard hitting tracks all over it. The opener Bad Attitude, Hard Lovin Woman, Strangeways, Mitzi Dupree... Blackmore's work on it is some of his best imo.

As for Megadeth, they've always seemed like an afterthought to me. Never been a fan.

To be honest I'm not very familiar with later purple stuff but I will check it out for sure thanks.

If you need to truly **** on UA (and you should) then you should tell your friend that Dave Mustaine's voice was so faded that it was like an angry Alvin the Chipmunk forgetting what political party he was supposed to be shouting about on his radio show.
