Band Death - which period do you prefer?

Typical death metal or experimental/prog death phase?

For me it's an easy choice because I'm not a fan of typical death metal in general.

And what's your favorite Death album in general?
Symbolic is mine.

I prefer early Death. Referring to that as “typical death metal” seems kind of odd because at the time there was nothing typical about it, it was a weirder, more intense kind of thrash metal.

I love old school death metal the most, but Death is probably the only exception where I prefer their more "technical" stuff. Probably because they, along with Atheist, were one of the only death metal bands to fall under that label while never forgetting what death metal is and being pure death metal. It's not like today, where Obituary and Morbid Angel seem to be the only bands playing real death metal anymore.

The Sound of Perseverance is my favorite Death album, with Symbolic and Leprosy following close behind.

Oh yeah, this is what I've been looking for. Grimy and skin-tearing brutality, reminds me a bit of Bolt Thrower's debut In Battle There Is No Law!.

This album just kicked me in the balls as soon as I clicked play. That bass is great, and the riffs are crushing.

These two albums are what I've loved most so far, still have some to listen to.
