Melvins - metal or not?

Would you call this band metal or not?

I mean no but they got enough metal influence and influenced metal enough so that calling them metal or not is academic.

OccultHawk 10-13-2018 12:23 PM

Disagree

Unequivocally yes

****ing Sabbath tribute band so yeah

The Batlord 10-13-2018 12:30 PM

I don't think they ever bothered to think of themselves as anything but an experimental rock band tbh. What a band think of themselves as genre wise is kind of important.

OccultHawk 10-13-2018 12:34 PM

Whatever they thought they were what they really were was a reincarnated Black Sabbath

Their approach to their music is rather important to categorization since whatever they think of themselves will inform their direction and I don't think the Melvins ever thought of themselves as metal and likewise their music never did anything but touch on metal. They're just a rock band.

Baloney

They’re pioneers of the Black Sabbath Revival Movement

MicShazam 10-13-2018 01:38 PM

Like Faith No More, they're tangentially related to metal, but it depends a lot on the specific song.

I don't think that's a thing. They were just down with My War.
