Phil Anselmo

Just saw him and his band of Illegals opening for Slayer. Phil is still killing it out there, his band was so-so, but he was on it 100% Is there any reason Rex doesnt join up with him? Do people still hate Phil even after all thats happened as of late?

I wouldn't be in a band with a skinhead either.

It would bring us to the old discussion, is it possible to separate an artist from his person/"civilian" ego/political opinions?

Well, whether Rex cares about his controversial behavior or not, maybe he's still upset and hurt because the past and Phil's reckless attitude towards Pantera?

Or maybe both reasons.
I don't know anything about Rex's persona to guess how he sees Phil's behavior.

When imbibing art it's totally possible to separate art from artist or to interact with that artist in a way that doesn't infect yourself, but when you're talking about being in a band with someone you're talking about being in a business relationship.

Maybe Rex would be totally okay with Phil sieg heil'ing and whatnot on his own time if the artistic relationship is sound, but when money and reputation is on the line it becomes a question of your brand and whether you're willing to align your brand with someone whose own brand has become associated with white nationalism. I wouldn't. It's not like I'd be joining Pantera and getting Pantera money anyway.

Oh, yeah. True. I hadn't got that, although it was implicit.

Ditto.
There are things so much more important than money and success.

But... but, Phil is a big Smiths fan.

I saw Pantera during their Vulgar Display Of Power tour. It was a good show, but Phil's voice was halfway shot about 5 songs into the set. Dimebag, Vinnie and Rex were tight that night though.

Never been much into anything he did outside of Pantera when I was into them, but I heard some Illegals for the first time the other day and was pretty surprised at how solid it was. Nothing mind-blowing but some good heavy **** to not focus on too hard lest you be reminded of better acts.

If they were to ever meet, Phil would likely end up hating Moz and destroy all of his Smiths memorabilia. It'd be a classic "never meet your heroes" moment.
