Rock Music From ex Yugoslavia

I'm from Serbia, and music in general is pretty terrible here. Bunch of dumb turbo-folk and generic dance-pop songs. Because of that, i grew up listening to rock/metal music from UK/US/Sweden...

But, couple of years ago i discovered that the rock scene in Serbia and ex Yugoslavia was really strong. Here are some of my favorites:

I would really appreciate if you listen to this and tell me what you think :)

First one is solid, the other two didn't do much for me though.

Igra Staklenih Perli makes some dope psychedelic progressive rock.

Hello fellow south slav :wavey: welcome to the forum and thanks for posting the videos. I've heard a lot about Ekaterina Velika (mostly about their tragic demise), and keep meaning to check out their discography. Also Leb i sol sounds familiar (would be my pick out of the three).

You can find a kind of general thread about ex-yu music here: https://www.musicbanter.com/country-...oslavia-2.html

Yugoslavia had some really terrific music in the 70s and 80s, I would say we were quite current with the general trends. I used to listen to Indexi quite a lot when I was a kid.

Post 90s though there's not much worth mentioning, apart from Let3 who are from my adoptive city of Rijeka. They went quite bonkers in the last decade or so but their 90s stuff was really great. These are a few of my favs:

Newer stuff:

I was also a fan of Majke in the 90s [classic rock/blues stuff]:

@Frownland

"Igra Staklenih Perli" is not really popular around here (most people probably never heard of them), but this sounds like a quality music. The thing is, i was never really into psychedelic stuff.

Thanks for giving the first three songs a chance anyway!

@adidass

Hello! I didn't expect to see someone from the Balkans here :)

I've never actually heard about "Let 3", but i listened to first two songs a moment ago, and they have an interesting sound.

Since you are mentioning "Indexi", my mother really likes them, but the only song i can think about right now is "Bacila je sve niz reku". That's a classic.

Yeah that one is great. Here's another great one:

I had their Best of and they have plenty more. I don't know why we can't make songs like that anymore. Where did all that talent go?

extremesportist 08-18-2020 09:55 AM

^This one is also nice. They had a really distinct sound.

Even though there are plenty great ex Yu rock bands, there are not many great vocalists, but this guy is an exception....

Serbian:
Boye-Kafe Na Dnu Okeana

Croatian:
Paraf - Javna kupatila

(trigger warning: the video is totally out of sync, or maybe a video from another song)
Denis & Denis - Soba 23

Excellent choices, although I wouldn't classify Denis&Denis as rock, they are new wave pop.

Also, Paraf were not serbian, they were from Rijeka, Croatia (like Let 3, Rijeka had/has a strong alternative scene).
