For most Smiths studio albums, there was a duff track in them that stuck out like a sore thumb, whether it's "Meat is Murder" (or "Barbarism Begins at Home"), "Miserable Lie", or in Strangeways case, basically the entire b-side of the record. I'll give "Vicar in a Tutu" a pass, even though it is the weakest track on TQID.

R.E.M.'s first two records didn't have duff tracks.

And what is that, exactly?

I have no opinion on the matter but I voted for REM just to make the poll tied.

What would the R.E.M. aficionados among you recommend as a good starting point in their discography?

I certainly agree with SGR about the early albums (also add Fables of the Reconstruction) but I'd also add Automatic For the People on the list. Also, I think New Adventures in Hi-Fi is highly underrated.

I even like Reveal. Think it's pretty underrated. "Imitation of Life" being one of their more underrated singles - with probably the coolest music video they ever did.

Go, Satan!

Anton Lavey was a good humored circus organ grinder. Probably an exciting guest for your cocktail party, but calling him Satan seems like a bit of an overestimation.

For the record, I voted for the Smiths. But I love REM too - I mean, what would be wrong with me getting a Michael Stipe tattoo on my left asscheek?

Have you ever liked the popular option?

The Batlord 07-14-2022 09:28 PM

According to the poll they are the popular option.

SGR 07-15-2022 07:27 AM

I wonder how it would look if we threw The Cure in as a third option
