The music that is corrupting American Youth..?
 

i recently read in a magazine article about a group of mothers who were forming a group similar to mothers against alcohol but instead it was mothers against rock/metal music. the mothers who have formed or joined this group are trying to pass an amendment forbidding rock/metal music. their complaint is that this type of music has corrupted their kids. that this music has been the cause of suicide, drinking, drugs, and violence, etc.

my complaint;
these mothers are fighting to ban rock but what about the other music genres out there? such as rap? what about rap videos that are basicly like porn and advertise women only as objects and only good for one thing?
what about rappers that encourage gangs and beating women, or advertise crack/cocaine? or female artist who will take off any piece of clothing to sell a record? if you ask me this is stupid and idiotic. if you are going to try to ban music don't leave out the real garbage.

and yes some rock is horrible. but not all. some rap is horrible. not all.

the main point i'm trying to make is that music is a freedom of speech and music CANNOT force you to take any action such as suicide or act of violence. we make those desicions.

and for the mothers who don't know how much music saves lives instead of taking it away they need to get a clue. i've had a couple of good bands that got me throught some tough times.
music saves lives and enriches them.

as for corruption...
their pointing their fingers in the wrong directions.

I would like to point this out, in the mid 90s the current pope benedict XVI made a crusade against rock music, and targeted a few bands in paticular, calling them diciples of Satan, among those he mentioned were Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Doors and The Eagles, yes thats right folks, THE EAGLES!...No mention of death metal bands directly writing songs about worsipping satan and rap and hip hop stars condoning drugs, violence and objectifying of women, after all they are not the real problem, the eagles is what is corrupting our children, just listen to take it easy and tell me that isnt the most hardcore and satanic song you have ever heard.

the Eagles were one of the best bands in music history, a classic.
as for the song Hotel California, it was an awesome song. and if thats the basically the only song you've listened to by the Eagles, you shouldn't be so quickly to judge.

Agreed, i love the eagles, i just find it lame that somebody would blame them of all bands for corrupting americas children when bands like slayer and mayhem are ignored...It's ridiculous, just shows how ignorant and hypocritical some religious groups can be.

you know, i think its the overbearing protective manner in which these mothers raise their kids that corrupts them. my dad is a preacher, im a crazy ****up. couldnt be more different. but when i was little my parents were very strict, you know, no "secular" music (i couldnt hum "We Will Rock You" for fear of being sent to my room with a red behind) i couldnt dye my hair, had to go to church and on and on. psycho parenting will **** any kid up worse (not to mention permanently) than ozzy osbourne ever could. lucky for me, my folks layed off by the time i got to be about 16. :)

No disrespect to your parents Spike but i think if people are going to preach their beliefs than you and I and everyone else should be allowed to have our own values too. I'm glad you got to 16 :)

Yeah this has to be an American thing. I don't know why, it doesn't exist in my America but these midwestern housewives with absolutly nothing to do but domestic work get together and start trying to out parent each other.

Im going to Oklahoma one day and distributing burned copies of great rock bands, im hoping to start a revolt.

The most ironic part is that as soon as they start preaching about the evils of rock and try to have rock music banned due to "satanic messages" the so called "culprits" gain huge publicity and become far more popular.
e.g. relax dont do it by frankie goes to hollywood was banned from a top radio station in britian due to its lyrics, almost immediately after this it went straight back to number 1 again in the charts

No, peaceful easy feeling has got to be the biggest satin worshipper song of all time, i mean that song is horrible when compared to eminem. Im sure everyone leaves an eminem concert much more peaceful then when they leave an eagles concert.

Now that there's a few pages of rants and raves, first of all, I doubt the story. What's the name of the organization? What's their web site? Where did you get the info from?

I've heard stories like this before and most of them were BS. Most of those organizations learned their lesson from the PMRC. It's not up to the government or some organization to decide what's appropriate and/or what kids should listen to. That's what parents are for.

If you want to get upset about an organization that is putting their own spin on what's appropriate, try Clear Channel Communications. Better yet, look at your own local Wal-Mart. Christian Fundamentalism at work!

This story is obviously bull ****. You can't ban entertainment in America (unless said entertainment involves breaking already established laws.)
