A very popular Prog band, they sound similar to Radiohead...Jeff Buckley, Yes, Nirvana and Pink Floyd are among their influences.

To me they sound nothing like radiohead i find that radiohead are much slower less guitar orientated and more depressing (i only own ok computor which i personally didn't like so thats where my opinions are coming from) as opposed to muse with blistering riffs and brilliant vocals from bellamy

Well to me, the only truely remarkable similaritys are between Thom Yorkes and Matt Bellamys vocal style, but you should check out The Bends, its a lot more guitar oriented and works better as a Hard Rock album, its a lot more upbeat than other Radiohead albums as well.

Sure, their music has a more mainstream appeal than Radiohead, i know a lot of people who love Muse but dont really like Radiohead.

Im a big fan of both myself.

Kashmir86 10-29-2005 11:40 PM

you cant forget the moody blues either, if you consider them progressive i guess

Heart of Darkness 10-29-2005 11:48 PM

I was disappointed to come on here and see a thread about Prog Metal and then see people talking about freaking Radiohead. I agree with JP that Dream Theater is Prog Metal, as well as their side projects, Jelly Jam and Liquid Tention Experiment. I would also include Queensryche as well.

i agree, and i definetely dont consider muse progressive at all

dream Theater is most definetly progressive....not rodiohead for sure...and i downloaded a few muse songs and they were for one, not good, and for two, not progressive.....Im not a huge fan of Dream Theater but i like a lot of prog bands along more or less the same genre

Radiohead are boarderline prog, like Pink Floyd they are prog when they want to be, among their influences were The Beatles, Jeff Buckley, Talking Heads, U2, The Smiths and Nirvana, but they have also listed Pink Floyd, Queen, King Crimson, Roxy Music and Can as influences as well. Their first 2 albums were straight up alternative rock, Pablo Honey had no real progressive ellements at all, and The Bends only had a fiew, however OK Computer, Kid A and Amnesiac all have heavy progressive ellements, i would classify them all as prog albums.

Yea. Evergrey's vocals are different from Symphony X's. They are very emotional, I love their vocals. I recommend you check out the tracks Solitude Within and Ambassador.
