If I wrote sh*t lyrics, my friends would tell me straight up that they were horrible.

hahahaha (the cradle of filth person isn't me) I'll convert you to noise rock soon enough *evil laugh* *exit stage right*

If you have to announce you can kick someone's a$$, that puts you right in the 'look how tough I am' category.

That being said, The Crue are probably the biggest band to come out of the whole VO-5 hair metal genre. That isn't saying much, though.

In the context of contributions to the world of music, they contibuted absolutely nothing but a look. There was nothing innovative or groundbreaking, music wise. Oh, sure, there were a few guitars gods (very few), and a few singers that could knew their way around a mike. Their songwriting was tacky and cliche. But, for the most part, hair metal made no impact on music history at all.

However, in the context of simply having a good time and playing crunchy metal, they were pretty good at it. It wasn't deep, didn't contain a whole lot of thought provoking lyrics, and just about any bar band out there could get a contract if they had the look.

It was fun music, with no real meaning, and that's why it burned out so quickly. The teens that were banging their heads to that stuff moved on into their 20s and then next generation came along and said "what the heck is this crap?". That's when grunge came along, and the hair bands pretty much disappeared.

Oh, sure, you could still see Quiet Riot....at the State Fair, playing for maybe 1,000 people.

There's been a resurgence lately, but it's not due to anyone suddenly taking The Crue seriously. It's nostalgia, plain and simple. People who banged their heads to this stuff 20 years ago are now in their late 30's or so, and go see this stuff to spend an evening back in their hey day, you know?

There's a place near here called Kahunaville, with an outdoor deck, big enough for concerts, and last year (I think), they had 3-4 hair bands one night. I forget which ones, (I didn't go), but it was obvious these hair bands knew that alone, no one would come see them except for their most diehard fans. But, lump a handful of them together, and you got "Wow, I can see band A,B, and C, for 25 bucks".

The Crue is selling out dates now, because it's been 15 years or so since they toured together, and people want to see it. Did anyone happen to see the show that followed their re-uniting? Vince Neil was playing, like the grand opening of the new Walmart or something when they approached him about it.

So anyway, there's my two cents worth.

Chill out and CTTS>>>Motley crue, and thats not just an opinion. Better vocalist, better songwriting, better musicians.

motley_crue131 06-14-2006 02:34 PM

bullcrap vince is way better than the dude from ctts. and nikki is better than their bassist. never paid attention to their drummer or their lead, but there u go. and music is opinion neway, so wut u think dont hav to b wut i think

boo boo 06-14-2006 02:35 PM

I usually don't like to bash bands on their own threads.

But Motley Crue really are crap.

Okay, I was wrong. Circle Takes The Square don't even compare to motley crue in terms of talent. Everyone, the guy who spells you u, be b, anyway neway and what wut is obviously more intelligent then me. Another thing, theres such thing as a factual opinion.

P.S. Does your mommy know you reffered to someone as "gay?"

boo boo 06-14-2006 02:43 PM

Meh, Cradle Of Filth are so inept that i find them somewhat amusing.

To be honest i don't like black metal too much, except for Dimmu Borgir, if they qualify.

Celtic Frost are great, they can qualify as black metal can they?

DearJenny 06-14-2006 03:20 PM

Why does everyone hate Cradle of Filth? I mean, they technically arent that great like AT ALL, but the shows are very loud and interactive and Dani is quite amusing. lol. I mean, its been brought up like three or four times on this thread for no reason.

swim 06-14-2006 03:32 PM

I personally don't have much respect for bands that have albums that range from mediocore to shit but, have great live shows.

Quadruple platinum on their first 5 albums? That's a mighty lofty claim. I'd like to see that, from a reliable source, in writing.

And if it is, in fact, true, the has got to be other artists who can match or best it.

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-14-2006 07:47 PM

Well Motley Crue`s total U.S. album sales is 23 million , taking into account their worldwide sales & they fact that nobody was dumb enough to buy any of their albums post 1990 i`d say that them going quadruple platinum on each of their first 5 albums was possible.

jr. 06-14-2006 07:49 PM

Quad platinum is what, 4 million? The first 5 albums add up to 20 million, then(if they did in fact go quadruple platinum). With 3 million for everything after that?

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-14-2006 07:51 PM

maybe that 3 million bought the huge number of greatest hits albums they knocked out on a regular basis throughout the 90s

Mötley_Crüe_4_Lyfe 06-18-2006 10:33 PM

i think nikki is a great inspiration for bass

Juggalo4life88 06-18-2006 10:37 PM

Me too, kinda, I mean he is among the group of bassists that gave something to the rock world.

Laces Out Dan! 06-18-2006 10:40 PM

No he isnt..Hes nothing out of the ordinary..Bassists that gave something to rock were bassists like Les Claypool, Geddy Lee, and Chris squire

mosesandtherubberducky 06-18-2006 11:35 PM

^don't forget Victor Wooten, Matt Freedman (yes he plays for Rancid but he's got a pick/fingers hybrid playing style and he can walk good) and damn you said Les

Laces Out Dan! 06-18-2006 11:36 PM

A list wouldnt be complete without him

motley_crue131 06-19-2006 07:15 PM

i actually think nikki was very good at bass. kickstart my heart and dr. feelgood really emphasize his heavy playing on the bass where he plays it like a guitar. but you guys forgot cliff burton up there

DearJenny 06-19-2006 07:19 PM

I'm not gonna lie, Nikki DID inspire me to pick up the bass, but it was for the image. His image, not his talent, inspired me.
