Uriah Heep, Thin Lizzy + Canned Heat

They are never mentioned. Does anybody like them?

I think Uriah Heep are great, a bit like Deep Purple! E.g. "Easy Living" and "Look At Yourself".

Thin Lizzy is just classic, "The Boys Are Back In Town" is just an example of this.

Canned Heat are ok, I'm not really into them but they suited the other two.

i used to be really into thin lizzy. now not so much. but i agree, they are classic. ive never heard of the others. do they have a similar sound?

TheBig3 01-09-2006 11:55 PM

Not really. I wanna know how Canned Heat fit in there, and you guys have probably heard "goin up the country" but didn't know it was by anyone.

Its that song that goes 'goin up the country, babe don't you wanna go" in a falsetto to destroy all other falsettos. It doesn't hurt that its accompanied by a flute (if I remember correctly)

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-10-2006 12:54 AM

Thin Lizzy = Gods

there we go

In my mind I think they relate, maybe because my Uncle listens to all three.

And Urban, you got it going on! = smile on my face.

As a fan of prog and cheesy arena rock in general i have no other choice but to be a fan of Uriah Heep, Demons and Wizards (the album not the band) is the shiznit.

Thin Lizzy kick ass period, thats a band everybody should like, no matter what their taste in music is.

I like what Canned Heat i have heard, but i am not too familar with them.

Laces Out Dan! 01-10-2006 01:33 PM

You have to admit the band also is the "Shiznit"

Seltzer 01-12-2006 01:55 AM

Uriah Heep is good. And people forget that Iron Maiden's dual guitar style is from Thin Lizzy.

Alright Deal

Bump. I am going to get my ass to do a Thin Lizzy review.

Anyone got the latest Uriah Heep Best Of?

Lisnaholic 04-17-2011 08:33 AM

^ Can`t help you with Uriah Heep, I`m afraid, but for people not familiar with Canned Heat, I can offer the following :

Firstly, they have some pretty good credentials. Formed when John Fahey got a couple of his friends together, Canned Heat were a springboard for the solo careers of Harvey Mandel and Walter Trout, and were fronted by the impressive figure of Bob "The Bear" Hite. Among other achievements, they made an album with John Lee Hooker, which is considered one of JLH`s best works.
Canned Heat may sound a bit dated by today`s standards because they never messed with the formula, but delivered some great, uncluttered blues and irresistable boogie workouts, like this one :

If I were to buy a Canned Heat album, I`d go for a "Best Of" collection, or "Hooker N Heat", which I suspect is a gem of raw, casual blues jamming.

I wouldn`t bother with a Uriah Heep best of, especially if it covers the majority of their albums. Just concentrate on the first five albums of which Dave Byron is the lead singer. The choice albums are "Look at Yourself" "Demons and Wizards" and "The Magicians Birthday" which are the pick of the bunch.

Uriah Heep didn`t have the talent of their counterparts such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Free or Humble Pie but their proggy style hard rock was kind of unique.

They were very much a blues rock band of their time and the best of "Canned Heat Cookbook" compilation worth listening to. Also worth seeing is their performance in the Woodstock film

Canned Heat was a terrific blues boogie band combining passages of psych and some southern rock. Boogie With Canned Heat is thier best IMO. Both Bob "The Bear" Hite and Alan Wilson were big record collectors with Hite supposedly having a collection of over 15,000 albums. The album Future Blues featured Harvey Mandel on guitar who had a solo career prior to joining the band and continued after with some great solo material as well, especially Baby Batter(1970) which was the blues and jazz fused with a touch of psych. Highly recommended.

Ok will do, it's still nice to pop on their main songs however.
