But Rolling Stones, The Who etc were phenomenal musicians and songwriters and are still not that bad till this day. KISS was just gimmick band. I think it is utterly ridiculous how they are being inducted but acts like WAR, Chic etc who were REAL musicians have been snubbed for years but then again the RHOF are pretty biased toward African American artists. It took Donna Summer's passing for them to even induct her after snubbing her for over a decade |

I don't agree with this. KISS was good, straight-ahead rock music in their first few albums IMO. Then came Beth. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dgEYoLSCTc...s500/url-1.gif |

As for songwriters, I'd say Paul Stanley was one of the most consistent songwriters of his generation. |

KISS may not have had high levels of instrumental proficiency, but they had outstanding meter (which is vastly more important in that straight-up style of rock). In fact after Ace left (after they nuked the fridge following the Destroyer album) for a short time he was replaced by a guitarist that *could* shred (Vinnie Vincent, who sadly had terrible substance abuse denons) and he didn't really work out.

When Kiss bugger off, perhaps the world will stop playing their crap noise once and for all. They make Judas Priest look and sound like musicians, thats how **** Kiss have always been. |

But those are bands which has members already in their seventies... |

That is true because some of my favorite artists are not great great musicians. I just don't think its fair how the RHOF snub more superior musicians and artists. I think other bands should have been inducted before KISS that are constantly overlooked. |
It's an abomination that a mediocre face-painting band like Kiss has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before any of the deserving and talented artists on the list below:
Sonic Youth Gram Parsons The Smiths Link Wray Dick Dale Kraftwerk Son House Kate Bush MC5 Pixies Joy Division Chic Roxy Music Nick Drake |

Again, I'll stick up for the early KISS albums, and even a couple later ones, as good straight-ahead rock. But I will agree with you on something else. The "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" is in my opinion a completely irrelevant, immaterial, utter, complete joke. I will never ever set foot in the place. I'd even go to a Walmart before I went to the RHOF. |

The RHOF is a popularity contest and based off the opinion of one man. The fact of the matter is there are more deserving bands that should have been inducted before KISS period. |
Nobody cares about the Rock n Roll hall of fame.
It's just an excuse for people in the industry to slap themselves on the back and have a free booze up. It's a total insignificance and whether a band is in it or not should make no difference whatsoever to your enjoyment of that band. |

Jann Wenner, editor of Rolling Stone, apparently approves every nomination to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and it's more of an institution honoring his personal taste in music.
I'm not a big fan of the Monkees but in 2007, Monkees bassist Peter Tork came forward and alleged to the New York Post that Wenner is excluding the group: Quote:

Yea its based off the decision of one man and he inducted his own self in the Hall and he is not even a musician lol
He snubbed a lot of artists. He snubbed Donna Summer for over a decade and they just recently inducted her last year because of her death. WAR has been overlooked countless of times as well. |
HUGE Kiss fan here! I don't think they should retire pe se, I do think there are certain ASPECTS of Kiss that should be retired though. Most notably the makeup and outfits. AND the merchandising! For all intents and purposes, the image BELONGS to the original lineup only, no matter what business arrangements the guys made between them. It's nothing less than disgraceful, to be kind.
That said, I'm perfectly fine with Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer in the band. It's just UNCOMFORTABLE seeing them dressed as Ace and Peter. They're both solid players who don't need to mimick two original members. Of course, I can't blame them one bit for doing it though. They've earned their place in a VERSION of Kiss. No matter how wrong Gene and Paul are for that decision. :banghead: At the end of the day though, it's the SONGS of Kiss that are most important to me and always have been. The image was simply the icing on the cake. Still, it's a lethal combination that has yet to be matched by ANYBODY in the history of American popular music. They definitely put a new spin on an old idea. It worked! :tramp: Great comments everybody pro AND con. |
Why does almost everyone here trash the name of KISS? I thought that everyone is supposed to love a clown - or why not four of them!

Gary Lewis taught us long before KISS was even thought of that "Everybody Loves A Clown"................

though im not a fan of KISS i don't think they should ever retire, i hope they'll continue on forever milking the **** out of their army..

Well, I did not say that the four jerks in the painted faces are good clowns. There is a difference between being funny and merely being silly and dumb. The Three Stooges had more brains than Kiss! |
I would think after a while all that makeup would have adverse effects on the health of their skin. :D

Why do so many people enjoy stoopidity as entertainment? I only like the music of Kiss for the sake of the music. I hate the lyrics and the stage show (judging from the snippets I´ve seen on the Internet). |

But stoopid stoopidity? "Indiscretion in the Ladies Room" for example? Or "Getaway" ("I gotta, gotta getaway! Gotta, gotta getaway!" Repeat, repeat.). I´d die of embarassment to perform that stuff in front of an auditorium full of people while wearing greasepaint. And Gene sticking his tongue out at the audience and spitting phony baloney blood is supposed to be entertaining? What´s the point? Still - some of their hard-rocking songs from the 1970s are OK. |
