Whenever people think of Skynyrd they think they are Sweet Home\Free Bird and the like and nothing else. It sells them short as I noted.

That is true for many, many bands and I think it gets worst as time goes by, the radio market is over-satuated with groups and which songs to play and the programmers fall into a rut of only playing the most popular. That is why God created freedom of choice - so we can use vinyls or CDs, I-pods or Youtube etc.

I have a strong passion for Lynyrd Skynyrd. I own their documentary type video called Free Bird and I would suggest this to any of you fans out there. They have been through some major crap over the years. It pretty interesting, I have a new appreciation for their music now and it helped me get to know all of the member of the band more (there were tons of members!). I have listened to them sooooo much, though, I have gotten burned out of their most famous songs so I went on a mission to find some of their more obscure stuff that they put out and found some real jewels. Some of these I like better than their more famous songs

Ones you need to check out Lynyrd Skynyrd Fans!!!!!!!

Since when is rock 'n' roll simple and repetitive?

Is this a trick question?

Not really.

I'm not so much a fan of Skynyrd anymore but that person who recommended Free Bird: The Movie is right...it's great for fans.

I think its become pretty popular for people to **** on Lynyrd Skynyrd. Probably because songs like "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Freebird" have become synonymous with fat, dumb rednecks, NASCAR and nasty, flapjack titties being flopped out at Southern Bike Week rallies. That, and it doesn't help (at least from a musician's standpoint) when you allow a ****head like Kid Rock to use the rights to your music (see also: Metallica).

I think that this is undeniably true, but undeserved. Lynyrd Skynyrd was a great ****ing band in their time, and they wrote some great ****ing songs. The memories of their past glory still outshine any blemishes caused by the usage today of the music that they wrote in the 70s. I'm just glad that Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins and Leon Wilkeson were all dead before they had to hear Kid Rock violently rape one of their songs (see also: Warren Zevon).

I'm not ashamed to say that I'm still a fan of certain Skynyrd tunes. Namely, "Gimme Back My Bullets" and "Simple Man".
