Santana (singer, hendrix, Nickelback, artists, band)

i just bought ultimate santana and this dude is a god.. I've heard he trained under hendrix? so what you guys opinions of him?

Carlos is an amazing player with a very distinct tone and style. You know it's him from the first note.
I'm sure he and Jimi met often ; Woodstock, both Filmore clubs, etc but I doubt highly that he took lessons from Hendrix.
My most-played Santana disc is the Live at The Filmore '68 double disc. It really captures the band at their best with extendend jams and an amazing energy.
I find anything after 'Moonflower' to be quality, but not something that I listen to often.

I began listening to Santana again after reading this thread. i was pretty impressed with Carlos i will say.

He wrote one good riff.

Then ruined it by playing it again and again and again with different, more **** artists than himself.

Carlos Santana is a legend. His music, as well as others', have been an inspiration to me and I consider it unacceptable for someone not to know him. It's like not knowing Led Zeppelin or Jimmi Hendrix. He's not just playing music, he delivers a message of peace and love through his songs. He's worked with with many great artists (P.O.D., Macy Grey, Dido, Seal, Joss Stone) and is someone "the grandchildren should know".

Those artists aren't great and I have to agree with Joshee his "unique style" is extremely repetitive I don't care how recognizable it is. He also worked with Nickelback's singer didn't he?

yeah he worked with nickelbacks singer in "into the night"

i dont find is riffs all that repetitive... he doesnt change settings on his guitar/amp or anything like ever so the noise is pretty much the same...but the riffs themselves differ

I'm sorry, but that was such a horrible horrible song.

Santana is a good guitarist, but his music is no longer original, and he should really stop pairing with guys like Chad Crouger and making such mediocre songs.

I never said his riffs didn't differ I said his guitar playing style was repetitive.
