Default Warren Zevon

So, I did an interview with Jill Sobule the other day, and we spoke about Warren Zevon a bit (she toured with him a couple of times), and it got me to start going through my live shows for Warren again, dates ranging from 1976-2000.

And I just feel like, listening to him perform, that we really lost one of the great ones when he passed.

Anyone else?

To me, Warren was the absolute best singer and songwriter of his time. Too many people only know him from "Werewolves of London" and don't realize his range and depth. I'd be curious to hear what Jill had to say about him. Saw her open for Warren back around 2000, became a fan of hers then.

BTW, have you read "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead," Warren bio, written at his request by his ex-wife Crystal Zevon? What a life, from a gangster father to bandleader for the Everly Brothers through more sex, liquor and rock and roll than you can imagine. It's quite a ride!

Yeah, I read it on a bus trip.

Pretty harrowing stuff, though when I was done, I loved his music even more.

Zevon music is sweet, when I'm in the right mood.

I first got into Warren Zevon about fifteen years or so ago. I picked up the "Excitable Boy" album and within two weeks I had ordered four more of his pieces. He was a really big fascination of mine for awhile, although I don't listen to him nearly as much anymore.

I just started listening to him about 15 minutes ago. I found a bunch of live performances on youtube. I've heard "Werewolves of London" "Excitable Boy" and "Play It All Night Long"

I gotta give him the thumbs up!!

I found out today that my best friend's Dad passed away. I listened to this song a couple times while I was working tonight and it almost sent me over the edge.

Absolutely,
His songs, his performances, his presence on stage, we lost one of the greats.
Excitable Boy will always be the one that got me hooked on Mr. Zevon.
Werewolves of London is the perfect summer or road trip song.
RIP
