Mountain

I searched and there was no thread about them 0.o! So lets start some discussion about them.

Im the mr.cool dude who discovered them off guitar hero :P. To me theyre the typical classic rock with a thrash metalish tint to the guitar- nice touch. Good overall band the only thing i can think to say about them is that i dislike the vocals.

Hits:
Apolitical Blues
Mississippi Queen
Boys in the Band

Mountain. Thrash Metal? All I remember of them is the immortal Nantucket Sleighride being used as the theme for Sunday's TV Weekend World.

not entirely sure of the genre but i wouldnt call them thrash metal...

You do know they came out in the 70's? That's why I was questioning the Thrash metal adjective you used.

Proto metal?

Where's the bugle when you need it?!

Really great... the leader singer is quite funny.
along with blue cheer and black sabbath for runners of metal

Amazingly consistant band. Not a bad release from them ever.

They were a heavy blues band - similar to Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple. I think I used to have Mountain's greatest hits on tape b/c I used to love Mississippi Queen back in the day. The lead singer / lead guitarist is Orca big.

Fantastic hard rock band. My favorite songs from them are For Yasgur's Farm and Theme for an Imaginary Western

I know Mountain reasonably well and I`m equally bemused that somebody would think they had some kind of thrash metal sound! We`re talking about a group, that is largely your typical hard blues rock outfit here and with a very late 60`s early 70's sound, if anything their sound had a sludgy blues feel to it.

Without doubt, two of their albums really stand out "Mountain Climbing" and "Nantucket Sleighride" which were released in 1970 and 1971 and in my opinion essential to any hard rock collection.

Frontman Leslie West was a pretty amazing guitarist as well and had a mountainous frame (hence the group name)

The best song is Nantucket Sleighride, especially the live version on The Road Goes Ever On...
