it retains much of the elements of the previous few albums, whilst pointing to the new direction they were gonna take

it's like a modern-ish old Stones album

If you're just ranking them based on their British Invasion phase, I'll give it to the Stones.

But if we're saying 'Which of these artists associated with the British Invasion is the best?' I say Beatles, Kinks, Who, Stones.

I'll go with the underdog, and a very good band as well, The Hollies.

Voted for the kinks simply because i prefer their albums, throughout the 60's and into the early 70's their output was more consistent then either of those other bands and i certainly feel that they were pushing music forward more than either of them.

I like the Rolling Stones and the Who although i don't find the whole of their catalogue as consistent as the Kinks, theres probably a couple of albums of each i really like and the rest i find pretty 'meh'. The Beatles i have never liked, they are just too pop for me, arguably the first boy band, i just can't sit through any of their albums.
