Simply Saucer
This band are amazing. A fusion of psychedelia, prog, garage rock and proto-punk. They disbanded in the late 70's and are heinously underrated imo.
Simply Saucer on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads I think Cyborgs is an album anybody who likes Psychedelia, Prog, Garage Rock or Punk should own. |
Ask for ups btw people, i really think you should.
I wouldn't mind giving this a listen. Sounds like my thing. (if that means anything :D)
I'm asking for an up :D
It'll be with you in 5 minutes
I'll take a hit of this sh*t. Sounds a lot like the Pretty Things.
An up would be appreciated Stu, sounds like later T.Rex in places but you know, cool! How on earth did you hear about them?
Nothing like T-Rex! I stumbled upon them when i was exploring the Electric Eels. Ups on the way
If you wouldn't mind I would like to give it a listen.
My new favourite band. Honestly. Much better than Electric Eels. Just like you said, they definitely have that post-glam (In didn't just make that up) sound, obsession with sci-fi synth effects. Like a progressive New York Dolls!
Glad you like, im quite obsessed with the album at the moment
yeah it's a bit fantastic, a really good find. The first half has the most punch, then they freak out. I'm spreading the word about Simply Saucer. The name is so 70's aswell. Wiki has some cool stuff about them, 'Rust-belt punk' Simply Saucer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
edit: Cyborgs Revisited - ''It was compiled from various archival recordings by the band, who had only ever released one 7" single before breaking up in 1979. The album's first side was an unreleased demo produced by Daniel Lanois and Bob Lanois in 1974, and the album's second side was a 1975 concert recorded on the roof of Hamilton's Jackson Square.'' Those Canadians! |
Exactly, i love both halves of the album for diferent reasons, the first is packed full of excellent, powerful garage rocks songs with catchy hooks and lyrics. The second half is a psych out, you totally find yourself immersed in it. The progression is quite superb.
Yeah i checked out their wiki! I dont understand how this band have managed to remain so anonymous |
probably that total lack of output during their existence, I think fancy studio production would have ruined their aesthetic anyway. It's garage punk motherf*cker!
But even then, some of the bands that people talk about on here are ridiculously obscure. Cyborgs Revisited is an absolute gem, you would of thought somebody would have unearthed it before now! Though i am quite happy i did, and you're right, they do piss all over the Electric Eels... the band that led me to them haha
I swear every time I look up a group on the choob this guy has done a video for them
I found this album last year while on one of my downloading sprees.
Should have had a lot more attention than they did. |
The more i listen to this the better it gets. Its becoming one of my favourite 70s albums rapidly
if I had to pick two highlights of the Simply Saucer (that name is fantastic) sound right now, it would be 'Electro Rock' and 'Mole Machine'. Any song titled 'electro rock' these days would be 100% horsesh*t, 2008 is going to be such a slog.
And they really, really sound like New York Dolls. Just less glam and more 'heavy metalloid music'. In the spirit of the music I'd also like to mention Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers, they were beyond cool |
Mole Music is a highlight, as is Eltectro Rock, as are the Here Come The Cyborgs' songs, and Illegal Bodies. Bullet Proof Nothing is great aswell, a nice surprise of a pop song hidden away amongst the scuzzy spaced out psychedelic jams.
Oo, the songs on that youtube link sounded freaking sweet. Can someone hook me up?
Oh wow. They remind me of a much more talented Velvet Underground. The guitar on Cyborgs Revisited is so dirty, notsomuch distortion but copious reverb echoing throughout the album. Awesome.
My friend is gonna love this. |
This is a great find :).
A little bit more distortion and it would have got a perfect score from me. The tracks have great energy, and has this nice psychedelic-garage rock'ish sound. Or at least during the first half. 'Electro Rock', 'Nazi Apocalypse' & 'Mole Machine' are all great tracks, one after the other. I'll definitely be listening to this a few more times. |
surprised to find this thread about them here, but nice one. I love them. I think I found about them on a blog a bit back, but they're so underappreciated like you said. Gonna go listen to 'em now.
Lot's of hype i see! Go on, someone hook a brother up...

Eh, there is nothing really breath taking about them, to me anyways. But nonetheless, they are a good band. Good find.
Had this album a couple of days now and I'm only just starting to listen to it. What a find! Instant Pleasure has just become one my favourite ever album openers (which gives me an idea for a mixtape...)
I wouldn't have even guessed the last bits were live if it weren't for the guy talking, it's just one great big spazz-out, heavy and raw. I'm very impressed.
Just gave the album a blast. holy crap it's great. Dirty, scuzzy, basement rock. Damn fine album.
