Heat Twenty Three: Battle of the Bands
Genesis:
Whether you like Gabriel or Collins era Genesis we should all agree that Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was a huge joke to prove that prog fans will like anything crap as long as it’s pretentious. Goblin: Best known for their Movie Soundtrack of Suspiria in which they did an incredibly good job these guys are pretty damn awesome. The Animals: One of the greatest things to come from Newcastle Upon Tyne, says it all really. Tangerine Dream: More Krautrock See: Neu! Brainticket: A bunch of Swiss, German and Italians bunched together doesn’t sound ideal, never heard it though. |
The Animals for me, an integral part of the British led Blues Revival of the early 1960s
Eric Burdon as a vocalist is one of the finest R&B singers to originate from any country. And the bassist, Chas Chandler, only happened to arrange for Jimi Hendrix to be in a band with Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding, Nuff said really. |
Brainticket are kinda Krautrock-y, cept with a lot more psychedeliciousness. :thumb:
I'm voting for them, so here's one of their tasty tracks for the rest of you called Places of Light so you guys can hear for yourselves: |

And you should know better than to say "we should all agree". |

I think Collins era Genesis has produced some great stuff (but of course, a lot of crap also). Though they became more of a song band than an album band.

Domino: In The Glow Of The Night / The Last Domino and Home By The Sea/ Second Home By The Sea are excellent post Gabriel tunes but they were generally Meh after he left.
I'm voting for Tangerine Dream all the way. Been a fan for nearly 20 years now. |
Right I'm going to bed shortly,
If by morning I find that Phil Collins is anywhere close to one of the best R&B groups in history, I'm giving the missus a Chinese burn, You have been warned |
