The Official Thin Lizzy Thread

I was watching the Live and Dangerous gig today and it struck me how damn good they are and how underated they are too. Starting out with a slight folk tinged Rock and then growing into those infamous twin guitar harmony sounds that were their trademark. In Phil Lynott they had one of the most charismatic frontmen in Rock and his lyrics were pure poetry sometimes.

You would be surprised how many tracks you know even if you think you don't know anything about them. Here is their trademark guitar sound:

Here is a track that was a little from the norm for Thin Lizzy but this really is a classic track:

They were never groundbreaking but what they did, they did so damn well. Classic rock at it's finest.

what's a good album by them?

jackhammer 05-17-2009 02:55 PM

Jailbreak or Chinatown are solid releases.

thanks :thumb:

Did they have any more tunes with the sax?

jackhammer 05-17-2009 03:07 PM

No not many at all. They were more of a Rock band and I think that Dancing By The Moonlight may have actually been a solo track for Phil Lynott. I love tracks with Saxophone.

6underground 05-17-2009 03:21 PM

Me too!
It's a shame... That saxophone with their guitar sound is hot.

I've got a soft spot for Thin Lizzy and their cover of the trad. song Whiskey in the Jar particularly.

I love Thin Lizzy! Phil Lynott is a legend and Jailbreak is predictably my favourite album by them :D

Jailbreak is awesome.

I remember the first time I saw Thin Lizzy on Tv. I would have never guessed that Phil Lynott was an Irish black man. AWESOME singer.

I dig me some Thin Lizzy. Jailbreak and Thunder & Lightning are where it's at for me!

Antonio 05-27-2009 10:05 PM

Live and Dangerous is a very slick show and has got the great Phil Lynot come on line to the chicks..." Anybody got a little Irish in them". The chicks begin to scream "Yea!". Lynot concludes..."Anybody want a little MORE Irish in them?" Great 70's rockers, love China Town and Bad Reputation.

puckbunnie 05-28-2009 08:05 AM

ahhhh i love thin lizzy!!! they have such a great sound!

I really adore a lot of there songs. But in saying so I also don't take to a lot of there songs. Even with a new singer they still rock.

The Boys Are Back In Town. Never forget that. Roisin Dubh(Black Rose) That is my favorite.
A song just done by the late Gary Moore and Phil Lynott, 'Out in the Fields' was so touching, so classic. It touches my Irish heart.

Don't try to hide behind the cause
for what you fight.
There'll be no prisoners taken
when the day is done.
No flag or uniform
ever stopped the bullet from a gun.
Out in the fields,
the fighting has begun.
Out on the streets,
they're falling one by one.
Out from the skies,
a thousand more will die each day.
Death is just a heartbeat away.
