I only know Walk Away Renee. But I LOVE that one!

I found a great "Best of Left Banke" album (Rhino). I like vinyl (and this is how this music was meant to be heard) and this sounds great. It also includes "Pretty Ballerina" and
The Stories hit "Brother Louie" (a member of Left Banke was a member).

Walk Away Renee was class, and several other tracks were great, so I'm going to have to join in.

If it were not for the mistake that was Ivy Ivy, which was really just Michael Brown and session musicians creating a record that caused so much anger both within the band and the business (and I'm sure with their fans once they heard the news), they would have made it beyond the first round, seriously. Desiree is one of the under rated singles of '67 Pop, and the sadly-named Too had some solid moments which live up to the raves. I'm not the biggest fan (Pretty Ballerina was a little light for me), but what they had was alright and worthy of investigation - Get the Mercury collection of everything they released in The 60's, great presentation, excellent notes...you can't go wrong.

The Left Banke are great, groundbreaking and considering their age amazing.

Bought a Left Banke bootleg over the weekend from Manchester's Northern Quarter. This bootleg is basically two albums in one,

The first half is an album called Montage, which was a project Michael Brown did whilst the remainder of The Left Banke were doing Left Banke Too, so 68-69 kind of period. As an album, its what you'd expect really and is actually very very good, well worth keeping your eye out for.

Unfortunately, the second part of the bootleg is the 1978 album, Strangers on a Train, which in my view is terrible, this 78 album on its own is horrendous and should be avoided at all costs.

But the Montage stuff is ace.

A few years ago I tried to purchase a "best of" compilation of Left Banke´s songs from Amazon. But for some reason Amazon informed me that they could not deliver the cd to me given that I lived in Europe (Sweden, specifically).

I have had *many* cds by other pop/rock groups/artists delivered to me in Sweden from Amazon over the years. So I am guessing that there was some legal issue (maybe related to copywrites) which had as a consequence that the music of Left Banke was not available at all in Europe.

Does anyone here on MusicBanter know anything about that? After having read on numerous sites on the net about how good the Left Banke was I would really like to get my hands on their music on a cd.
