Everything Rockabilly

So I have noticed, looked around, asked, and what not, there doesnt seem to be a Rockbilly Thread anywhere around here! So here i am starting one up!

Discuss who your favorite Rockabilly bands are, how you got into them, your biggest memory, anything of the sorts. I love rockabilly and im always looking for new bands to look into!!!

Educate each other!

My first time...

When i was 16, i had met a group of friends that were into a local band named Calabrese, Calabrese was horror rock but they played with a lot of different bands that were not horror rock. After going to Calabrese shows for almost a year and half i didnt know that i was going to be introduced to something that would literally change everything about me. I dressed like the typical rocker, acted like the typical rocker etc... But that night i was introduced to Three Bad Jacks. My ears were in heaven, i loved the combination of fast music and slow, the up-right bass, the lyrics, everything about them just made my heart jump. From that point on i loved anything and everything rockabilly. I found a lot more bands that i didnt even know existed til after that night. I envied Pin up girls, i wanted to dress up like them, i wanted to do my hair like them. I wanted everything 50's in my life....

Rockabilly is a giant part of my life that i honestly dont think i could live with out.

I love rockabilly, seen quite a few acts live. Also love psycho-billy as well as bands who mix surf & rockabilly. I'll have to come back with names of favorite bands & artists. The Blue Moon Boys are a home state group who I caught live
several years back.

Here's another group I like, the Booze Bombs.

I've never heard of the blue moon boys, but i have heard of the Booze Bombs... Im really happy that someone else finally came and said that they liked Rockabilly/Pshycobilly/SurferBilly....

YAY!!!! conversations to be had!!!! I'll also start posting more and more about the bands i dig!

I like listening to 50's rockabilly. Almost any but Eddie Cochren and Johnny Burnette are the best.
Imelda May is a current favorite.
I have not checked out the above yet.

Speaking of psychobilly - I saw The Cramps decades ago in what was a very memerable local show.

I'm a fan of original rockabilly. The modern revivalists are sincere in their love of the genre, but I find there's a lot of variability. For me, a little bit of psychobilly goes a long way.

You can't go wrong with the originators, such as Carl Perkins, et al. And by far the greatest rockabilly ever recorded was by Johnny Burnette and the Rock 'n' Roll Trio. Kitten, if you haven't acquainted yourself with them, get the CD on Amazon entitled The Johnny Burnette Trio: Rockabilly Boogie post-haste! (Sorry, I'm new here so I can't post a link to it till I get more posts under my belt!)

Apart from the original fifties guys, one of the greatest are Stray Cats. Three classic albums and also, they'll blow your mind when you see them live.
