On the negative side of the criticism, this was the band who was made fun of by the one and only Frank Zappa on "Punky's Whips" named after their singer Punky (real first name Edwin) Meadows.

You mean the one that discusses Punky's beautiful shiny hairdo in a semi-profile which emphasized the pooched out succulence of his insolent pouting rictus?

Yes. Frank was warning us about these things even before they turned trendy - always spot on at the start! Too bad Terry went into a visuals over substance band called Missing Persons a few years after this, but you know the biz.

Angel were seriously one of those Sunset Strip bands, and B movie fans remember them for appearing in the film Foxes when they were going down quick in a cameo appearance (Casablanca helped fund the film, no surprise there). According to some sources, they were also going to be part of the then-new video disc trend as well, but the plans fell through. I would not be surprised that their stage show also helped inspire a moment in This Is Spinal Tap.

I actually liked Missing Persons. Even saw 'em in Sacramento. Yeah, the fashion was ridiculous looking back, but I still like the songs

I can dig it - at least they had something behind the image, especially when it came to the hooks that were really effortless for them (I even have the debut album in my collection, truth be told). Still, in my opinion it seemed that the image took over the music, which was in a way important to break through, but it was way too overpowering enough to eclipse the musicianship that was going on to those who did not notice - a better blend would have been good, but that's way too late for those words now.
