Most Underrated Band of the '60s

There are already threads about underrated artists, but I felt the need to create one specifically for the '60s. Although I'm a big Beatles fan, I feel that their sucess has overshadowed many other excellent bands of that era, such as the Kinks and the Byrds, and, to a lesser extent, the Beach Boys and the Doors.
What are your thoughts?
P.S. Would have added a poll, but there are too many options...

Numero Uno for me would be Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band. Trout Mask Replica is the ****.

Then I would say that second place is a three way tie for Fifty Foot Hose, Silver Apples, and The United States of America. They're pretty much the best psychedelic groups of the 60s imo.

Spoiler for youtube videos:

Oh I'd say the Rascals. They had some great top 10 songs, but I don't really think they got their dues for being a great pop rock band.

The Turtles. They were great, but they seemed to only exist to people for about 5 minutes.

Shadows of Knight were great, too.

I've also got to throw in my vote for some more of my favorite boys: Strawberry Alarm Clock, and the Seeds.

Frank Zappa fans got a ton of exposure to Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman of the Turtles. They were known as Flo and Eddie (MV = Flo, HK = Eddie)

I actually saw Flo and Eddie open for Alice Cooper in '73 (Alice was touring Billion Dollar Babies), they were great

I was hoping someone would mention Flo & Eddie. Howard and Mark are hilarious guys.

This one always cracked me up, because it's so horrible in every way.

I guess Howard Kaylan lives in the Seattle area (who knew?) - or so I found one afternoon when I was drunkenly surfing facebook.

However, when it comes to the Turtles, no matter how many times I hear this song, it still makes me swoon. This is proper bedroom music in the Ki/Lady house.

Plus Mark Volman's damn silly face throughout the whole video ... absolute gold.

I'm going to go with the band I'm most familiar with.
I've always thought that Steppenwolf was underrated all around, especially so, when considering they debuted around 67 or 68.

I bought this album in the most mainstream record store in the UK.

There is a number of bands we could name that debuted during the 60s but didnt hit the pinnacle of their careers until the 70's or 80's. Like Pink Floyd or Black Sabbath for example, just to name a few.
