From what I've heard it was either band politics, or he was burnt out. Neal Schon discovered Arnel Pineda, a singer in a Journey cover band, who sounded just like Steve Perry on YouTube. It's eerily similar to the plot of Rock Star (a 2001 Mark Wahlberg film) where the original singer of Steel Dragon gets replaced by a younger singer. The film is eerily similar to Ripper joining Judas Priest. That is eeirly similar to Phil Collins replacing Peter Gabriel as lead singer in Genesis. btw don't mention Abacab to Trollheart.
