He's wrong cause his point actually amounts to authoritarian dismissal of differing opinions and demnding everyone respect his musical authority.

oh of course he's wrong about not being allowed to criticise something. It just comes from a place of genuine love and his trademark lack of nuance

Once The Velvet Underground are in play you can’t just skip it and move on. It’s pivotal and essential. Punk, post-punk, the dark side of psychedelia, caustic guitar work, all of that is at stake. There’s no validity in dismissing that record... only loss. I don’t want her growing up without Coltrane and Schoenberg, neglected without the care of the masters, and potentially end up lost, like you. I care.
