Lennon-McCartney vs Waters-Gilmour vs Page-Plant
Which songrwriting partnership was better? Please coment and tell your reasons!

Lennon McCartney were the most revolutionary and influential and straight up simply wrote the best songs and in crazy numbers.
Waters typically wrote by himself and Zep often wrote as a band or with JPJ. |
Lennon and McCartney by a mile. It's not even comparable imo

I agree that Lennon-McCartney were the best ones, but Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb or Shine On You Crazy Diamond were written by Gilmour (music) and Waters (lyrics), so I'd say Pink Floyd was based on the songs these two wrote together. As for Led Zeppelin, John Paul Jones would suggest ideas, but I'd say he was to Led Zeppelin what George Harrison was to The Beatles (and what Rick Wright was to Pink Floyd). Jimmy Page and Robert Plant wrote/arranged together the following songs without the help of any other band member:
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, The Battle Of Evermore, Four Sticks, Going To California, Houses Of The Holy, Immigrant Song, Living Loving Maid, Nobody's Fault But Mine, Over The Hills and Far Away, The Rain Song, Ramble On, STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, Tangerine, Ten Years Gone, Thank You or What Is And What Should Never Be. I still agree that Lennon-McCartney were better, but I think it's fair to compare them with others, too. Maybe it would have been more fair to remove Lennon and McCartney and just compare Waters-Gilmour vs Page-Plant, what do you think? But hey, it's just an opinion. And thank you for voting! |
I voted for Lennon & McCartney for the same reasons as Hawk and Marie. I dig Zeppelin and Floyd and I think they're both in the upper echelon of rock groups but John & Paul were at a level above both of them and pretty much everyone else.

However you list enough songs to where all of your examples are song writing tandems so fair enough. It just doesn’t strike me the same as L-M or Jagger Richards Otoh if you really break it down you have to admit the L-M “team” was a farce. They wrote independently. It’s a good poll. |

Waters became the dictator of Pink Floyd when they're working on The Wall, he wrote 23 songs out of 26, if i remember well, on his own. But The Wall is being mostly remembered for Another Brick In The Wall Pt.2 (written entirely by Waters), Comfortably Numb (the music is from David Gilmour) and maybe Young Lust (music also from David Gilmour) So I'd say both had the same importance in Pink Floyd's songrwriting. And I'm very glad to be able to coment here, it's very interesting to debate about music while I try to improve my English xd (that's why my coments are sooo long) |
Great points!

Let's see if Floyd or Zep get at least a vote! |
